Pantry Dreams

I miss having a pantry and lots of kitchen storage.

If I could build my dream kitchen here at the farm I think I would choose any one of these wonderful pantries. Imagine having an actual ROOM as a pantry!

In my last post I had a link to a kitchen renovation we did a few years ago when we lived in the city. When I drew the plans up for the new kitchen I made sure there was TONS of storage as we were coming from a tiny kitchen...and I mean TINY.
The only room for a pantry was to incorperate the fridge into a wall of cupboards which included a slide out pantry on each side of the fridge...a nice deep cupboard above the fridge a tall skinny pantry that could also be used as a broom closet if you took the shelves out and a coffee bar with cupboards above and below a small counter.
The rest of the kitchen had some pretty ingenious cupboards that ended up giving us even more space than we needed. I think had we stayed in the house we would have filled those spaces eventually.

Here are a few pictures of the storage features from our previous renovation.

On the other side of the farthest slide out there was a pantry/broom closet that was stepped back like the coffee bar. There were also corner cupboards at the end of the clipped counters.

This was the most unique cabinet I had ever seen. This was in a corner that was too cramped to put in a lazy susan. those two drawers slid out from the left all the way back to the wall behind the sink. Once they were slid back in place the rounded shelf swun around into that space so the door could shut.

I REALLY loved this spice cabinet right near the stove.

This cupboard was perfect for us because I had some very large items that wouldn't fit on a lazy suzan. In the area to the right which you can't see you were able to put very tall items.

This was my favorite cupboard. It fit all my everyday pots and pans...even large ones! And above it do you see the drawer with two handles? It was actually one large drawer that was big enough to fit all my cutlery and carving knives can openers and lots of other handy items. And everything was organized!
As you can see I was already using this room before we were done the kitchen renovation and we were just starting on the dining room. I was VERY grateful to finally have an actual kitchen to cook in!

My pantry cupboard here at the farm

A little more pantry space from a 'dead' corner

These shelves weren't there before. I'm grateful to have them.

Now here at the farmhouse I may not have that dream kitchen to work in....but what I have serves the purpose with character and charm. With a little more work and creativity it will be the perfect kitchen....FOR ME.

Maura,

Your kitchen is charming and when you decide to redo it you will know exactly what to do.

You live in a cottage, full of charm and beautiful character & surrounded with lilacs. The kitchen - it will happen & it will be lovely.

Hugs,
Joyce

Character and charm beat modern and efficient any day of the week for me - but I know that you'll find a way to marry all those elements when you do your reno - after all, the last reno was a winner!

I agree, you can't beat the character you have! I love those big pantries though also. I had one once, but not in this house. Love your shelving too!

I love that drawer for the pots and pans. I wanted one when we redid our kitchen but did not have room for it, at least not without sacrificing my dishwasher! I do have several deep drawers that are perfect for keeping plastic containers in though which I love!

I think your kitchen is adorable with so much character. I look forward to your improvements.

I miss my former custom built kitchen. I had an island with deep drawers to store my pots and pans. My pantry held my washer and dryer with cabinets to the ceiling which held all my Christmas china and then I Still had a huge area of three walls full of floor to ceiling shelfs.

Oh to have a kitchen renovation.
I love all your pics, Maura, and all the wonderful ideas they hold.
We have a large kitchen with so much wasted space, a re-do would be beyond fabulous. I can dream..
Have a great day!♥

Your pantry is perfect !
All the little nooks and crannys you have incorporated throughout the kitchen, lots of hidey-holes I love it !
I have a huge solid copper pot rack, made from old beer brewing vats when a century old brewery was closed in Pittsburg, PA, it holds oodles of pots and pans, and I hope I never have to live without it.
Your home is such a haven...

Wow - you've got a great pantry! I must say, that is probably one of the things I miss the most since we've moved into our farmhouse. My kitchen is very small, so I'm limited in cupboard space and would absolutely LOVE to have a pantry again.
Thanks for sharing your wonderful room!

Hi Maura,
Thanks for visiting and entering my giveaway! I've entered you for one chance to win. Good luck!
I'm drooling over that first pantry picture! LOVE that chalkboard door...too cute!!
Your kitchen turned out wonderful! I remember how difficult it is to live through a kitchen renovation. It's like winning the lottery just to get your sink and stove/oven back (lol)!
Have a nice day,
~ Jo :)

HI Maura
thank you for these ideas....I want my cabinets taken out and then I just want some open shelves! Is that crazy or what? I just really love the open shelf look. That is way down the road so for now I will have cabinet doors to hide everything behind. Oh your pillow got mailed today....sorry for the delay.
Let me know when you get it.

Your new kitchen may be small but I can see you in it already. Did the hubby and you come up with the design for the drawer/swing out combination in the old kitchen? That's a wonderful idea and would fit our kitchen perfectly if we can ever get to it! Hope you don't mind if I snag the idea and use it when the time comes. Can hardly wait to be in your new kitchen with you.... Love you....Scufty
