A Girls Road Trip

Thank you for all your wonderful kind comments
about my sister Susan's visit
and
well wishes
for my sore back.

I'd like to report that we had a
WONDERFUL VISIT
albeit too short AND my back is much better.

Three days before Sue left for home
my favorite SIL ;)
Donna
took Sue and I on a road trip.

Donna loves taking the 'back roads'
and so do I so we
had a wonderful time driving
the country roads around our part of Kansas.

We saw lots of old barns
and wonderful rolling hills
which I just can't get enough of.

Where Sue lives in Manitoba Canada
it looks very much like this.

It's funny though...
when you see it in a different country
it takes on a more intriguing look!

Why is that?

Rolling hills

We had a destination.

We were heading to a little town
neither Donna or I had seen before...
Hillsboro Kansas.

The name said it all for me.
There had to be HILLS around
this little town for it to be called
Hillsboro don't you think?

Well turned out that there were no
hills in town!

That didn't stop us from checking out
the antique store and gift shop
while we were there
and we even
 bought a few things.

From there we headed to the little town
of
Marion Kansas.

Well guess what...
Marion has HILLS!

Not only did it have hills
it had at least 6 antique shops!
A few weren't opened that day but
 we still managed to check out 4
I think and even brought home a few things.

Marion Kansas

What a sweet town.
If you ever get the chance to visit
Marion you won't be disappointed.

I wished we could have looked around
 the town a bit more
BUT...
we had reservations in the
country and didn't want to be late
so off we went.

We drove some pretty 'backwoods'
country roads on our way to
our destination.

We were headed to the
near Benton Kansas
which is about 15 minutes east of
Wichita.

Now this isn't just a place to eat....
it's an
experience!

When the weather is right this is a real treat.
First you can go for an
*old time wagon ride
*train ride
*walk the beautiful grounds
*watch old time cowboy movies
*check out props from TV shows like
Bonanza...Gunsmoke...Roy Rogers and Dale Evans.

When the BELL rings (triangle dinner bell) for supper
you head into this room below.

On one side of the table is chairs
on the other is benches
and everyone eats together.

When you get in there the tables already have
water and coffee pots filled with hot coffee.
They were just setting up when I got this photo
above.

Then they start bringing in the food.
Each plate is brought in loaded up with
*new baked potatoes
*BBQ'D beef brisket
*smoked sausage
*home-made baked beans
*buttermilk biscuit

And if that isn't enough they come around
and with pots and load you up with
more if you have room!

Then
to top it all off....
home made
Apple Crisp with ice cream.
YUM.

What is really fun about all this food
serving is that the nights entertainment
is part of the staff that serves you the food!

Once the food is all eaten and the tables
are cleared off the entertainment begins.

We caught one of the last regular
performances before their
Christmas show began
so we got
to
enjoy
the old time cowboy
favorites that a lot of us remember
as kids.

 Prairie Rose Ranglers

What was really exciting for us
is that the woman second from the right
is a friend of ours who runs a
little restaurant/cafe
in the little town we live near.
She's a real sweet heart.

They did a Patsy Cline show
last summer that brought tears
to many eyes when Kim sang
'Crazy'.

Anyway...
the show was over at 9:30
and we headed back home to put our
sweats on and sip a cooler before bed.

We had a
WONDERFUL
day.

~~~~~~~~~~
Sue...thanks for coming to visit us.
Can't wait to see you again.
Love you.
I hope you all have a wonderful week...
have fun preparing for
Thanksgiving
and I will
'talk'
to you before then.
It's good to be back.
It's Been Fun
Yesterday morning my sister Susan
left for home.
Unfortunately she had to leave a couple of
days earlier than expected
as the people she had gotten a ride
with decided to leave on Sunday
instead of Tuesday.
Oh well...it was a wonderful visit
and we got lots of visiting in
and even found time for a
day-trip!
We're grateful for any time we can
spend together.
~~~~~~~~

I'm afraid I put my back out on Saturday
so I'm not able to sit here at the desk for
very long but I wanted to get a few pictures
posted for you.

This is Olly enjoying his 'Aunty Susan'.
He's got a tough life doesn't he ;)

Sue enjoyed Olly as much as he enjoyed
his belly rub.

More photo's coming once I can sit longer
at the desk.

Did any of you feel the earthquakes last week?
We sure did.

I hope your weekend was a good one!

Having Fun!

Sue is on the right

Time sure flies when you're having fun.
My sister Susan and I are enjoying every
moment together.

We've visited the local parks this past weekend
and enjoyed the last of the fall colors.

My Sister In Law Donna came with us
and we had a wonderful time.

Remember this house?

If we get time I'm going to see if we can get
a tour of the inside of this beauty
while Sue is here.

We still have a week to enjoy her
company so we've got lots
more yacking and exploring to do.

I just hope we don't loose our voices ;-)

Have a wonderful week!

Almost Time!

Olly doesn't care that
company is on it's way.

He doesn't care than I'm
scurrying around making
sure things are ready for my
sister ♥Susan's♥ visit.

I'm so excited.

He's such an intense cat.

Nope he couldn't care less.

While Olly is 'hanging' out....
I on the other hand am busy
getting last minute things done.

You know...looking for 'dust bunnies'
cleaning the fridge
vacuuming
dusting
polishing
etc.

Hubby came down with the flu
so I'm trying to get everything done
as fast as I can just in case I come
down with it too!

They won't be here until tomorrow
but I also need to mow
and then get some baking done
so I've got my work cut
out for me .

Wish me luck.

Have a great week!

Ready For Guests

Next Wednesday my Sister arrives from Canada.

The guest room is ready!

It's been nearly 3 years since Sue was here with us in Kansas
but this will be her first visit since we've moved to the farm.

The last time she was here we lived in the big old Victorian
in town....now we're here in the country
in our tiny cozy farm cottage.

I'm excited to see her
and the wonderful friends who are dropping her off
while they continue on to Tulsa Oklahoma.

She'll be here for two weeks...
lots of time to yack...shop...explore...did I mention yack?

;-)

See this pretty quilt?

One of my favorite Bloggers gave it to me!

She said she thought of me when she saw it...
how cool is that.

Thank you my friend...I LOVE it!

It's perfect.

The pattern and colors are gorgeous.

I have a fluffy Canadian goose down comforter
that I put at the foot of her bed
although I doubt she'll get
cold as she can see the wood stove
from her bed.

I LOVE that floral pattern and I love the lilac color.

The little black dress...pinafore apron and hat
and hanger was made by Amish
not far from us.

Sweet Dreams Sis...
we'll see you soon!

Are you having company over the holidays?

A Little Fall Decorating

I don't have a lot of indoor fall decorations.\
to play with.

I think I need a trip to Hobby Lobby!

If you're looking for dust....you're probably
going to see it.

I promise I'm going to dust and polish before
my sister get's here next Wednesday!

No use doing it twice....right?!

The white pumpkins you see ....
they're from our last years crop
and they're still looking good.

I found this little crystal bowl at a garage
sale years ago and it wasn't until
today that I REALLY took
a good look at it.

I don't remember seeing this spider web.

I don't know who the maker of this bowl is
but who ever it is they did a beautiful
job. The cut work is deep and 'crisp'
and yet it's very delicate.

Not bad for $1 !

I'm not sure how much more decorating I'll be doing
but if I find something I like while Sis and I
are 'out and about'.... and it's a DEAL
it will be coming home with me.

Are you done your fall decorating?

~~~~~~
I'm still working on my blog.
I'm sorry if you've been looking around and
clicking on things and they aren't working.
I may have to delete a couple of tabs as I'm a
computer klutz.
I think everything else is working OK.
If you find a problem please
let me know.
Thanks.
I hope your weekend is a good one!
