Fur Feathers And Fluffy Butts

It's been a while since I posted some

good photo's of the critters 

here on the farm

so for those animal lovers out there...

here you go!

Above is Olly.

He follows me and loves to be 

in the garden when I'm working.

He's always on the lookout for the

most comfortable spot to watch

the world go by.

 

Lizzy would have pushed him out 

if she could but Olly

wasn't budging

from his nice warm sunny spot.

 

  

Shep has to be close to the action.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Chelsea is our little farm dog.

Her 'brother' Bubba our other Shih Tzu

is the 'house dog' but Chelsea

is definitely our

'FARM DOG'.

And she knows that's her title

because when ever well call her that

she wags her tail and looks

proud as punch. :) 

 

Here's Hope enjoying her meal.

 

 

We expanded the chickens run

to behind the coop/garden shed

under the trees.

They are enjoying the soft dirt

and the shade. 

 

This is Licorice.

She is a Barred Rock

and was bought as a chick along

with her 'sister' Gumball who

is no longer with us :( 

 

Blogger is really acting up this morning

and trying to force me to have blue 

type with underlining!

Anyway above is Buttercup who

was one of the chicks we 

bought along with Licorice.

Buttercup is a Buff Orpington.

 

Above is Queen Latifa.

She is a Black Australorp and

 has a 'sister' named Oprah.

 We've had them since they were

fluffy chicks.

We have 20 hens including one

Rhode Island Red named

Chicken Little

and a rooster. 

 

Lizzy has to check out the girls

'run' just in case there's 

something good to eat 

or something new to play with.

We'll have to watch her carefully

since we have two hens setting

on eggs and should have some

chicks by Monday.

They are in the 'brooder'

and are separate from the others

for now. They'll all be able 

to see each other once the chicks are

old enough to go out into their 'run'

but they'll be separate from the others 

until they are close to adult size. 

 

Fluffy Butts...aren't they cute!

 

Queen L again.

 

This is Romeo.

He's a Black Australorp

and he is the nicest rooster...not an

aggressive bone in his body.

He takes good care of the girls 

and they LOVE him ;) 

 

Shep has the title of

GUARD DOG.

He's smiling because I told him

how beautiful he was and that he was 

our GOOD GUARD DOG. 

 

Lastly here is a picture of Hope and Rosie

playing. I missed Hope rearing up 

and bucking...too bad. 

Well I hope you enjoyed seeing

some of our furry and feathered

friends here on the farm.

 Unfortunately we've got severe

weather warnings today

so the sun may not shine.

It's tornado season 

in Tornado Alley...

don't think I'll ever get used to it!  

Henry And The Memory Stones

When we moved to the farm 

there were stepping stones leading to the

front door.

They were very uneven and even dangerous

to walk on so hubby planned to 

take them out. 

There was something very unique 

about these 'stones' 

which were actually pieces of

poured concrete.

Most of them were plain.

A few of them though

had names or hand

and footprints in them.

They were pieces of the 

history of this sweet 

little homestead.

Memory Stones.

We decided to keep them.

They sat in a pile under the trees

for a year.

This spring we planted our little

postage stamp lawn inside

the picket fence but before we did...

we set these in place.

We don't know who these people

were...but they left their

mark on this little

farm

and we will respect that.

They used to be gray concrete 

but our rusty water has turned 

them to this color.

I've gotten used to it.

Henry our little 'RESCUED' kitten

loves laying on these stones.

He and Chelsea like 

to play chase 

on them.

My blogging friend

was asking how our little

Henry was doing

so Deb...

these photo's are for you!

Henry 'hunting' for Chelsea.

Below Chelsea is in the distance

hunting for toads

or birds hiding under the lilac

bushes.

"I don't think she saw me!"

They play while Olly looks on.

He and his sister Lizzy are getting used to 

Henry... they'll even sniff noses but

so far that's it.

I'm hoping one day they'll all 

be good buddies.

Henry's sister Dora 'the explorer'

went to a wonderful home last month.

My hubby works with the fellow so 

we get updates on how she's doing.

The word is..she's doing great!

Our Weekend (Part2)

It's wonderful to be

outside working in the dirt

after what seemed like a

very LONG winter.

It was a busy weekend

but a good one.

While hubby worked on the 

picket fence

I planted hosta's 

ferns and columbine

in the shade garden.

I've still got a lot more to 

buy and plant

but we're going to have to 

do a bit at a time.

Perennials are SO expensive!

Here's a few more pictures

of the start of the 

fairy garden.

If you look closely 

above the windows

you'll see something 

amber...it's a

lantern 

that comes on 

when it get's dark!

I'm sure I'll find little

things here and there to 

add as time goes on.

If you look closely in the above picture

you will notice a curving line

in the soil in front of the

trees.

It took me two days to put

all these rocks in place.

You're only seeing the

tops of most of them

as many of them are

over 7" deep 

5" wide and 

12" long.

There was LOTS of digging

and lifting involved so by

 the time I was done

my arms felt a 

couple of inches longer!

A few of the rocks were

about this size.

Once the plants are in place

it will be time for mulch.

If you look closely at those photo's above

you'll notice little white things

in the garden area and where

the  new lawn is starting to 

grow.

It's elm tree seeds!

You know what I'll be pulling up

for some time to come.

Unfortunately the lilacs are

about done.

I'll miss them when they're gone

so I've been trying to 

get a whiff of them as often

as I can.

Chelsea likes to come with me when

I walk the lilac lane to the mailbox.

This is a 'hitching post' 

that we found in the old barn

before it burned down.

I had hubby put it out by the 

picket fence.

One day maybe I'll

 have a horse again!

After this picture was taken 

I went up with him.

The picture above shows you our

lilac lane with the lilac 

grove on the right and our south pasture

on the left. The house actually sits sideways

on the property and looks out on the lilacs

and pasture. 

The road in the background is the dirt road

we take either to town or to the city.

See that orange rust colored thing 

in the center of the picture?

That is our propane tank and it

was once bright white. 

This is what our water does when it

touches it.

This is why we can't paint the fence white!

This last picture is hubby's brother

burying the foundation of our 

old barn that burned.

You can see some of the tree's 

that were damaged in the fire.

Some of them are starting to leaf out!

So as you can see it was a very busy weekend.

Lots of work...but it felt great.
