Still Porch Dreaming

We have two porches on our little cottage.
A tiny front porch as you can see
in these two photo's...

...and the back porch in the
two pictures below. This is a porch/patio and is
partly covered which is nice when it rains.

Hubby has promised me a screened porch
one day. The roof will follow the roof line
on the right almost to where you see the roof
become steeper. The roof will slope down
towards the two windows on the left and end
just before them. It will also come 14 feet
out from the house this way.
The picture below shows this a bit better.

Since moving to the country nearly 2 years ago
on the 19th of June we have been busy renovating
and working on the yard so the porch
has been on the 'back burner'.

I'm afraid it will stay there for a while
as we still have things to do
that are higher on the priority list.

Still have to cut the posts and stain the fence

I have so many plans to decorate
the screened porch when the time comes
but the one thing that both
hubby and I are most excited about
is a hanging bed so we can
take afternoon naps on those
beautiful spring and fall evenings.

Can you imagine napping here on a
cool summer afternoon?
Wish we had those more often
here in Kansas!

Well we had one of those afternoons
this weekend and it got me to dreaming again.

Here's a few more hanging beds for you.

I think this bed above in one of my favorites.
Doesn't this look cozy!

Wouldn't you like to stretch out
with a good book on the bed below
and drift off to sleep...sigh.

For now the screened porch and
hanging bed is just a dream
but one day....

Do you have a hanging bed on your porch?

Have a wonderful week!

It's Porch Time Again!

Country Living

Don't you just love this time of year.

Many of you have been enjoying some
beautiful spring weather
and have already got your
veggie gardens planted
and pots of beautiful flowers
sitting on your patio's decks
and porches.

Unfortunately for us here in
our part of Kansas it has been
unseasonably chilly for the last
couple of weeks so we're a bit
behind when it comes to
gardening.

I've got a few potted plants on the
porches but I think I've lost a
Boston Fern because it got too
cold one night.

HOWEVER...it looks as though
starting Thursday...we are returning
to spring temperatures and that
means
PORCH TIME!

So..here are a few beautiful porches
and screened in porches
to get you in the mood
or to get you
dreaming.

California Living

I love the porch lights on the wall
of the photo above this one.
We need a new light on our old porch
out back and I think one of those would
be perfect for the old farmhouse.

Country Living

I thought this outdoor living space
above was kind of like a porch.
If the roof isn't glass then I
think I would put
something up
there
for those
rainy days.

Country Living

I'm still thinking about a hammock
to put between two
of the trees in the
shade garden.

Country Living

Hubby says he still would like
to build a screened in porch
here on the farm.
One day.

In the photo above do you see those
two swinging couches?

Wouldn't that be wonderful if they
were the size of a single bed.
Imagine laying there
reading a book
until
your eyes
get so heavy
you just fall asleep.
Heaven.

BHG

The above photo is more like a
3 season room but
I love the cozy look of it.
I bet it would be wonderful
even on a rainy day.

House Beautiful

Don't you just love that
coffee table
and
hanging willow love seat!

Country Living

What a wonderful place to
enjoy a meal.
It's hard to beat living
in the country.

Southern Living

What a great place to be on a hot
summer day.
Imagine sitting out there reading a
good book and then when you get
too hot...you just walk out to
the beach and dive into
that cool water.

Red Bud Manor Inn

You don't need a beach to cool
off on this beautiful shady
front porch!

Southern Living

This is another great porch above.
I bet that ceiling fan feels great
on a hot muggy day.

Whether you have a front porch,
back porch, screened porch,
patio a 3 season room
or just a lawn to sit out on...
I hope your weather
is warm and sunny.

Enjoy your week!

Lilacs and Butterflies and FFF

They're here!

Our lilacs are in full swing now
and every time you open a window
or step outside you are greeted with that
wonderful heady lilac fragrance.

I close my eyes and I am taken back
to my Grandparents home in
Canada
where they had the most beautiful
English style gardens.

They had two lilac bushes
that would fill the air with that
beautiful scent that
would drift into the veranda where
I sometimes slept on weekends
and summer holidays.

Funny how a scent can do that...
take you back to a wonderful
memory.

For the last two days I have been
trying to photograph
our lilacs
and some beautiful
Monarch Butterflies that have
been flitting around the farm.

Unfortunately
the wind was blowing so
hard that the butterflies were
having a hard time trying to find a spot
to land where they would't get blown away!

I finally got a few photo's
but it wasn't easy.
The wind was so bad that in nearly
every shot the lilacs are a blur!

The grove of Lilacs as you come onto
our farm.
This grove is between the house
to the left and our south pasture.

Here is a pretty Swallowtail
I found in the grove
behind the house.

It was very hard to get good lighting
as they were flitting all over
the place trying to find a
calm landing place.

The lilacs aren't doing well this year.
I noticed that we don't have many blossoms
and they are faded and not as
colorful and lush as last year.

I took a closer look at them
and I see that our late
frost killed some of the
buds before they opened.

Such a shame but that happened
the year we moved in.
A late frost had killed
all the blossoms on the lilacs
and the fruit trees on the farm.

So no lovely lilacs or fruit that year
but last year which was our first spring
here on the farm we had an abundance
of everything!

The cottage is waiting for it's new
paint job
and the front porch is waiting for
steps and a sidewalk.

The door is waiting for it's
new trim boards.

We did manage to get the
porch swing up though!

Everything is on hold until
we get the picket fence up
and stained and the veggie
and flower gardens in.

There's just no rest for the weary!

I have to keep
reminding myself
that
Rome wasn't built in a day.

It's not easy ;)

I'm linking up with
Amy at Verde Farm for

So hop on over and
check out all the other

I know you'll have a ball.

I hope you all have a
WONDERFUL
Thursday, Friday
and
Weekend!
