" Like Sleeping On A Cloud"

There was a mattress commercial way back in the 60's that had the slogan "Like Sleeping On A Cloud". I don't know about you but I haven't slept on too many mattresses that have felt as good as how that sounds. Those words have been coming to mind lately as I think about our future screened porch. I had some friends years ago who were a little 'Bohemian'..what we labled back then 'free spirits'. Their house was built on a hill in the mountains and they had a 'walk out' basement and under their huge back patio they had a bed hanging by chains. I thought that was the neatest thing I had ever seen. I laid on it once...I was in heaven! It was a different feeling ..not like laying on a water bed but more like you were floating in the air. I wanted one! Now as we're making plans for our screened in porch I've been thinking about that bed. Alot.
Wouldn't it be a wonderful place to 'chill' on a sunny afternoon with a ceiling fan blowing a soft breeze down on you and a cool drink sitting close by...laying there softly swinging as you read and doze?!

Sounds Heavenly don't you think?

What a beautiful idea - I think I'd like it way more than a hammock. I'd pile it high with soft pillows and settle in with a book and plans for a nap!

Hello Ladies!
I'm glad you like the hanging bed idea. I just told Mr Fixit when he got home from work this morning about it and he REALLY likes the idea so we'll probably make our porch to fit one in. He was thinking we could put it on a pully thing and pull it up and out of the way...hmm I was thinking about a ceiling fan over it but that's something to think about. Anyway I could picture a few ladies sitting on that leaning on a bunch of pillows sipping wine coolers under the fan while the guys sit at the table and shoot the breeze. Now we just need to build it and have you girls come over to visit! Sounds like fun to me! Hope you all have a wonderful weekend :)

I agree that it sounds wonderful. Those shots are inspiring, too, aren't they?

I know a 90 year old woman who put a bed on her back porch so she could sleep outside when she wanted to. She does it too. Spunky old chick!

You're right Maura. Swinging beds are heavenly! I've thought about putting one on my sleeping porch, in place of the old iron bed. Just can't seem to find the time for changing out everything.

Thanks for visiting the cottage again.

Finally got to see this post about the hanging beds. Wouldn't that be an absolutely wonderful addition to any porch? Wow! I wonder if I can get my own Mr. Fixit to think of a place to put one for us ... wish me luck and thanks again for the inspiration...always find it with you.... Enjoy your day! ... Scufty

Did you ever get your swinging bed? We are thinking of putting one on our new creekside deck (after it is built). Just wanting to know if you did and if you like it. Thanks.
