I Dream Of Picket Fences...Again

Our old picket fence in the city.

Do you dream of picket fences?

If you've been reading my blog for a while you already know that I used to have a picket fence. When we lived in the city we had a white picket fence and an arbor surrounding an English style garden. Then we moved to the old Victorian where we built another picket fence and because the existing pergola was aged wood I did a walnut stain on it. It looked like it had been there for many many years.

More photo's of our old fence

There is something very 'cottagy' about picket fences. Can you have a cottage and not have a picket fence?
Yes.
But would it have as much character?
I guess it depends on the person veiwing your cottage.

Our old fenced entry when we lived in the city

Part of the stained picket fence we built at the old Victorian house.
(please excuse the ratty looking early spring garden!)

Now here on the farm I'm am without my picket fence and I miss having one.

Fortunately for me we have a  destructive dog. Now what would be so fortunate about having a destructive dog you ask?
You guessed it...it means if we want to plant and keep a flower garden around the house we have to build a fence!
And guess what kind of fence I'd like ;-)
yep...a picket fence!

So...I'm dreaming of picket fences.
Again.

Here's a few beautiful fences

(These last photo's are from the internet)

Are you dreaming of picket fences now?

I hope you have a WONDERFUL weekend.

There's no fence prettier than a picket fence - and white is, for me, the best colour. I hope you get your fence soon!

I just love picket fences, Maura. I agree, cottages scream out for them. We have an old, really old, chain link fence. Replacing it with a picket fence would look SO good.
Yep, I'll join you in dreaming of picket fences.
Lovely post. Enjoy your weekend, my friend.♥

I love picket fences. We had one around our first home, which was a colonial. It surrounded our gardens.

I've missed it. The cottage that lives in my head has one. It's lovely. It looks much like the ones you have posted.

I happen to think that fences..especially picket fences are romantic and give such a "warm, welcoming" look.
I love them too with lots of flowers!!!
Now you've got me dreaming!
My hubby & son are just about finished pyutting up our fence...but for the sake of our dogs it cant be a picket one.
I will be satisfied with my own new fence but will always have sweet dreams about a little white picket fence too.. :)
Hope your dream comes true, my friend....

I love picket fences! I think they make a house look so charming and cottagey! I'd love one around the front of the house and keep trying to figure out how to do it as we've a huge corner lot. I do have one around my veggie garden. Loved all the photos!

Hello everyone! Thanks for the comments..it's wonderful to hear from you all. I'm glad you're all enjoying the photo's of picket fences...don't they just touch your heart!

John I can picture that exact scene in my head...I loved June Allyson and she was perfect for that part. The music is Dream by Priscilla Ahn. It's not as cheery as my Izzy song but it's nice for a change. Izzy will return one day soon though..he puts me in a good mood for the day!

Have a WONDERFUL Day....and take care. :)

Hi! First time visiting your blog and it is so pretty! I too dream of fences. I bought a house two years ago that I am trying to decide whether or not to sell. If I do keep if, the fence is coming up! :)

I love picket fences too Maura ... and I agree with Pondside, white is definitely the best colour. Now if I could just convince hubby ... everytime I mention it, he complains about them being difficult to paint. (I wonder if he's ever heard of a spray gun LOL!!)
Gorgeous photos you have shared today.
Warmest Hugs,

Love the fence and yes I love English style gardens and I'm working on getting my yard looking like one. But I can't have a fence around the front but will be putting one near our garden.
