The Garden Gate

(you can click the pictures to make them larger)

Do you love old garden gates? I do. The right garden gate seems to add such character to a yard or a garden. If they squeak that's even better! My husband made a gate for our arbor in the city and you had to walk through it to get up on the front porch to our door. We had so many compliments from people who loved the feeling that it gave them as they walked into the front garden...one person said it was like stepping back in time. What a wonderful thing to say!

This one reminds me of a secret garden entry

I love the color of this gate

I hope that one day here on the farm we'll give people that feeling again but we have a LOT of work to do before that happens.

this one would look nice for a vegetable garden

In the meantime I'll keep looking at pictures of gates and get ideas for our screened porch and garden. It may be a lot of work but the end result will be worth all the effort.

I love this one...it reminds me of our old one

This one looks very Zen

This one has a cottage feel

I love the double gate

Do you have a garden gate?

A gate really lends a feeling of enchantment, something special waiting, just on the other side. We have plans for one too. In fact, I think we have a lot of the same plans, you and I! : )

Be well ~Andrea~

We have a driveway gate. Our driveway is used as a “patio” and our garage is my “studio”..so everypart of our place gets used.

Oh yes, I LOVE the feel that I get from a garden gate. I agree that a little squeak just adds to the charm. We had a lovely picket fence and garden gate at our first home. I would love to have that again.

Love the pictures you found!

I so agree and enjoyed looking at the gates you had pictured. The colored one would look so nice next to my home. Its craftsman and we are hoping to put the fence up this fall. And I will also need a garden gate so I will return to look at your pictures again!

I have an old gate I found on a farm that was being sold. I have hauled that little gate around for fifteen years. I love gates too! Great photos! Thanks.

What beautiful pictures! I love garden gates too. Right now I only have a tiny scrap of a garden, so definitely no gate--but someday I hope I will be able to have one.

Hello girls and you too John..thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment..it's SO good to 'see' you!

Andrea...good luck with your garden gate plans..I think you're right we do have similar tastes LOL!

Cynthia.. I've seen bit of your patio I think on you blog...what I saw looked beautiful! You'll have to take more pictures for us so we can see where you sit and relax..when it's cooler that is.

Catherine...I'm glad you liked our old gate...Keith did a really good job on that and it took a lot of work to make the arches. I painted it and it was a LOT of work but well worth it. I hope one day we have one as nice. I loved your post on Cottage gardens..VERY nice!

John...yes I did see your garden gate and arch...just beautiful! I love the stone walls too...something we don't see much of over here in Kansas. Thanks for sending your link!

Debbie..I hope you get your picket fence again one day. I miss mine but the plan is to build another here on the farm. Good luck and hopefully your gate will have a squeak!

Julie... I agree...that gate would look lovely on a Craftsman style home...you'll have to take pictures this fall of your gate and post it..we'd all love to see it!

Hi Callie...how lucky to score a real farm gate! I bet you've got it displayed somewhere or are planning on just the right place for it. Isn't it fun to find something that we love and pack it around with us!

Laura Jeanne I hope one day you get your garden gate one day...even if you just have room to display it on your wall!

Thanks again for stopping by everyone...I hope you have a wonderful day! Take care...

Lovely post! I dearly love gates! Thank you for sharing a nice variety of gate photos along with your thoughts of where they would best fit in. I have a couple of nice gates on our place and you've prompted me to take photos of them soon to share. Have a great rest of your week!

Hi Maura,
I love gates too and did a post back in August last year, click here to see them.
I have always thought them interesting and inviting. Thanks for sharing yours.

I counted once, when I did a blog on the gates at Pondside. I think that there are nine of them - some pretty and some just utilitarian, but I love them all.

I love the double gate with all that stone. My veggie garden has a picket fence gate and the fruit area has a metal arbor that has a gate. Love all the photos!

There was an old metal gate left on our new property and I use it for the birds in front of the bird bath, the feeders and the bird house. It is so cute to see the birds use it as a safe place to sit.

I really would like to have a secret garden. Gates are so enchanting.
