A Small Town 'Painted Lady'

Back on July 4th I posted a picture of this old Victorian 'Painted Lady' that is in the small town not far from our farm. The picture unfortunately doesn't do 'her' justice.

I'm always a little uncomfortable taking pictures of someones home without permission but this day I decided 'what the heck' so I took a few shots from the street.
It was the flag flying from the porch that was important that day.

A couple of weeks after the holiday I headed into town to see if there were any garage sales. There was only one. So I decided to drive by the old Victorian and drool some more. There were two people sitting on the porch steps so I decided to bite the bullet and go ask if I could take pictures. Turns out they were only the painters but they said the owner was home so I knocked on the door.

The friendly owner answered and she and I got to chatting and the next thing you know we're walking around the house and I'm taking pictures of all the beautiful details on this beautiful 'lady'.   Oh and by the way...I looked up the meaning of 'painted lady' and among other things it means a Victorian home that has 3 or more colors to bring out the details of the home.
Interesting.

The house is on a corner and this is the right side of the house along the street.

This was a carriage house that the last owner made smaller. It is now a guest house.

Guest house and the opposite side of the house

Lots of beautiful details

Look at that porch ceiling!

This wagon came from the owners ranch in Colorado.

It's all in the details
Can you imagine painting this 'lady'!

Back where we started

I had a wonderful time chatting with the owner who was so sweet. She invited me to come back once the painting was  done and said she'd take me on a tour of the inside.
WOOHOO!
I've seen this lady's fall display on her porch in the past so I'm really excited to get some pictures for you.
I'll take lots of pictures...I promise!
Soon.

I hope your day is a good one.
Maura :)

Hi Maura,

Gee, we lived in the foothills just east of San Francisco for 4 years and I never knew what "painted ladies" meant. Thank you for the history lesson. (o:

What a beautiful house, the pictures are outstanding, and no, I can't even begin to imagine having to paint that "lady".

Have a wonderful day,
Joyce

Good for you, I know I would be far too shy to do that, but I'm glad you weren't! : )

I can not imagine painting it. At all. 2 musoka chairs this summer and I'm all painted out!

THis is a lovely victorian home. It looks like she has been well cared for and with lots of love.

The porch celing in the old days was always blue and it reminded them of heaven. That one of the stories I have heard.

I can't wait to see the inside. Thank you for letting us view this pretty painted lady.

What a beautiful house and how nice of her to let you take pictures! We have a gorgeous painted lady in a small town by us, too and I am tempted to ask if I could take pictures!

I love this house. I am so glad they are painting her up right. So many folks don't do that with these Victorian beauties anymore. They deserve to be painted up. Can't wait for inside photos.
P.S.-I have a beautiful jack that looks like your phoebe donkey. She is so pretty. She is beautfiul. You can check him out on our blog if you have time...his name is Andy.
Thanks, Amy at Verde Farm
