Feathering The Nest

Home and Garden

The saying 'feather your nest' has a different meaning for me at this time of year. When the weather gets cooler at night it's time to start thinking about changing the bedding to suit the season.

It has definitely cooled off at night here in Kansas but not quite cool enough to bring out the flannelette sheets and warm quilts and fluffy duvets just yet.
It won't be long though.

I like this change.
The thought of climbing in between warm fuzzy sheets under a  cozy fluffy down comforter makes me accept and look forward to the change in the season rather than fight it.

A cozy fall/winter bed doesn't have to be covered in dark colored bedding...it can be just as cozy draped in layers and layers of soft blankets lace and embroidered white linens.

Wouldn't you like to dive under the covers of this cozy canopy bed!

Internet

Our bedroom is just off the dining room where our wood stove sits. You can see the fire from our bed and listen to the wood crackling as you drift off to sleep.

So as I wait for the weather to get even cooler I enjoy searching for pictures of cozy bedrooms and bedding and dreaming of ideas for our bedroom.

How about you?
Do you enjoy looking through magazines or on the internet at bedrooms decorated and made up for the different seasons?

I hope you enjoyed the pictures and they get you in the mood to 'feather' YOUR nest.

Have a wonderful day!

Maura :)

Oh, I just posted this week on a bed I am doing..one piece at a time...Come by when you can and take a look.
I love pretty beds so much and love the "unmade" look that so many of these photos are showing...much more than a perfectly made bed. Guess it's the slob in me....:)))

Thanks for showing these lovely beds..

My mind, too, is wandering in that direction these days. I absolutely adore the changing of the seasons. It seems I'm always ready for that change once it arrives. And fall is my absolute favorite season of the year. I'm ready for respite from this oppressive Alabama heat and humidity. I'm ready to swaddle my children with newly knit scarves and hats. I'm ready (I think) to tackly my first quilt. I'm definitely ready to have a fire going in the hearth on a cool autumn evening.

Maura,
Thanks for showing us these lovely photos. I adore the first Pottery Barn bed ensemble. Love the colors of that one. Looking through magazines of any kind is one of my passions!
Have a lovely Wednesday!

How appropriate! I just decided to paint our headboard. It is a beautiful, iron reproduction of an ornate design. I bought it through Speigal about ten years ago. But, it is time for a change! It is a king, and of course, you cannot find a king headboard that is vintage! I am thinking painting it in black, nothing too glossy, with the hopes of doing a little "chippy" work on it :)

I have not told J yet! Ha!

Thanks for such inspiring pics, Maura!

Beautiful bedspreads and rooms. I would like to buy a down comforter, but in the winter I think white would look odd. I have dark bedroom furniture and I am just not sure. I would like to have a brown comforter, but they are not down. What do you think Maura?

I absolutely LOVE nice linen... but with the dogs, I hate putting our best on the bed!

I have a monogrammed antique french sheet dating from 1850......

Hi Maura,
I loved viewing all the bedding pictures...I'm not sure that I'm ready for winter, though. I love to be warm and don't like the cold. But, if I had to be cold I'd certainly choose the first Ralph Lauren photo...very comfy looking.
Fondly,
Ann

Suck beautiful bedding! My favorite thing about this time of year is sleeping with the windows open and cuddling up under the covers! It feels so good after the hot summer!

Maura, there is nothing better than dragging out the down comforters and sleeping with the windows open in the fall... I love that coolness in the air and being snuggled under the warm down!! :)

I used to love to look thru the home dec magazines and I had a trove of books too. But now our dogs love to sleep in bed with us (we sorely need a king size bed!!!) so I don't fret about "styling" the bedroom too much. LOL I do however, change the sheets and blankets frequently, and often just throw it all in the dryer to get dog hair off and fluff them. I love warm blankets fresh out of the dryer! Ummmm!

Thanks for stopping by my blog, and an even bigger thanks for voting for Leah! You're the best. :-)
