Happy September!

Country Living

Ah September.

It has been a very HOT humid summer here in Kansas this year and it seems it has been
the same for many States in the USA.

It's still hot and humid where we live but as
we turn over the calendar to the 9th month there
is hope of cooler days ahead.

Where I came from in the mountains of British Columbia, September is a busy month.
It's a time for getting firewood and getting the woodstove or fireplace ready
and finishing up the canning for the season.
The gardens are cleaned up and the tools
cleaned and oiled and put away until the coming of spring.

Here in Kansas most of us won't be putting the garden tools away for another month or more but those
of us who have woodstoves will be cutting and splitting firewood soon.

It will be a satisfying feeling knowing the woodshed is full of dry wood ready to keep us warm and cozy over the winter.

September is also a time to start our fall decorating.
Since this time last year we were still in the process of renovating our old cottage farmhouse...
I don't have any photo's to show you and this year I haven't even started decorating for fall.
It's hard to get in the mood when the temperatures
are still in the 90's!

So...here is some inspiration for you
from the Internet.

Home and Garden

I hope that you have fun decorating your home and garden for the season. I plan on doing a bit this year but with a HUGE young destructive dog outside and no fence or screened porch up yet...
I won't be doing much out there.

I look forward to seeing your photo's ;)

Have a wonderful September 1st!

Maura :)

Miss Maura,

HAPPY SEPTEMBER 1st! It's so exciting to think that the weather WILL BE changing, soon, we hope.

Thank you for the beautiful pictures. Mom is upstairs getting the fall decorations out and today we will "help" her decorate. Well, after our nap, honey snack, nap, lunch, nap, honey snack - oops, can't help today, maybe tomorrow. Giggle, giggle. Know what? We love you to pieces, honest. (o:

Good Morning! Fall is in the air here. We didn’t have a warm summer..Lots of overcast, cool days. A few hot ones but not many (yeah!) Looking forward to my own personal favorite season!

Our firewood is stacked - we did it in early August. The Great Dane will have to erect the frame that we use each year to hold the supply at the back door - we take it down in summer and put an old baker's rack in its spot. The weather turned cold and rainy on Monday, and it feels more like October than September on the Island, but I know it will pass and we'll have lots more warm days.

Hi Maura,
Last weekend we were in the 90's and this weekend it's supposed to be in the upper 60's. Now that should get me in the fall mood!
Love the pics, those pottery barn lanterns are just wonderful!

S-E-P-T-E-M-B-E-R... it rolls like bliss from my tongue. We're having such a beautiful 1st day of September here in Alabama. It may not be cool just yet, but there is a breeze blowing and the temps have just dipped below 90 degrees for the first time in a LONG time. Happy September! :-)

I keep seeing such lovely fall images online (such as these) and wonder at myself. As usually I've torn into the garage and started dragging fall decor in. But I've been out in the yard piddling for days. Country Living has always done it best!

I am so ready for fall. It is my favorite time of the year because it starts to cool down. Your heating with fire wood makes me think of my childhood. Have you cooked on your wood burning stove. I remember my mother doing that when I was a child. Have a great day. We had a storm go through last night. i enjoyed the pictures of your trip Have a great day. Your Missouri Friend,

Hi Maura
Although no English, I will try to write in your language.
I love your blog, enjoy it with your travel stories and customs.
In Valencia, Spain, September is a month rather hot and homes are not prepared until November.
Thanks for sharing the pictures and your daily
It is certain that it would be lovely when decorating your home.

Maura, I am one of those dragging my feet at fall decorating because I don't want to give in that summer is over, but this year summer was so miserable that I should embrace it! You found some lovely pictures to share. I always love everything from Country Living. Have a wonderful day! Twyla

I so not looking forward to the winter months. We only had a few days of really hot days this summer. Summer really didn't even start tell July and it seems to be over! But I do love the fall decor and I'm looking forward to hanging my pumpkin quilt.
