Front Porch Memories and Dreams

Now this is an awesome view!

Have you ever spent time on a front porch? Do you have wonderful memories of sitting on a front porch with someone you love...like Grandma and Grandpa? Or are you one of the lucky ones who has their very own front porch to sit and while away a beautiful day? My first wonderful memories of spending time on a front porch was at my Grandparents home in Manitoba Canada. It was actually a veranda but had wonderful windows with screens so you could enjoy the fresh breezes and the scent of lilacs and peonies and roses. Then in my adult life my husband and I built a front porch on our home that we eventually sold. Next was a beautiful old Victorian home with a front porch that we enjoyed for a short time before moving here to the farm.

This is our small front porch here on the farm

Now we have a tiny front porch that has room for an old cast iron and wood park bench a few plants and that's about it. The great thing about it is that it faces one of our lilac groves and happens to be downwind of that wonderful nostalgic scent that takes me right back to my Grandparents home.

I love this porch..look at the sky lights to bring light into the bow window...love it!

We have a plan...for the future. We are going to build a front porch across the whole front of our little farm cottage. It will certainly be a labor of love as we will do the work ourselves. I'm not looking forward to the work...again....but I look forward to spending time on that porch and recalling precious memories of happy times with my dear Nana and Grandpa and making new memories here in the country.

Now this is a wonderful sunny porch...love the door and the wicker furniture and flowers!

Wouldn't you like to put your feet up with a glass of Iced Tea out here?

Nice deep porch and what a lovely garden to enjoy as you relax.

Wouldn't you love to be sitting here sipping lemonade?

Our porch swing is waiting to be hung on a new porch.

This porch needs a flower garden surrounding it but what a nice place to sit.

I think you'd be sipping a mint julep on this front porch.

I hope you've enjoyed visiting these porches....have a wonderful day!
(hopefully on a front porch)

Porches are one of life's simple pleasures, Maura! I have a front porch that goes across the entire front of my cottage...and a porch off the master bedroom.

The sun rises on the master-bedroom-side of the house, so it is such a joy to have the porch there...looking out into one of our fields.

I'm so glad you were able to get the giveaway button on your sidebar. Keep checking in; I'll be posting the pics of the goodies soon.

Hugs,

I'm all for a porch. We have two in front and its great cause I can sit up there with friends, or neighbors who are walking by and you can visit without worrying about split drinks or whatever...You'll get your porch soon enough..Hope your having a wonderful Sunday...The lilacs might be fading now. I hear in Wisconsin they haven't even bud yet..they are still getting frost. Love to you dear friend..Cynthia

There's nothing I like better than falling asleep on the veranda with a book in my lap. All my life I wished for a veranda and I love it!

Also, love a front porch. What is life without one??
And lastly but certainly not least, just love your little dinky donkeys and your shih-tzus. I also have two, shih-tzus, Chui and Oliver. :)
Have a wonderful week!

My parents had a front porch on their home. It faced the west and there was nothing better then sitting out there watching the sunset. We would sit out there and just visit with family and friends in the summer months. I always wanted one of the wrap around porches, but that wish is for another day. Have a wonderful day.

Not enough can be said about outdoor living spaces like porches. We have a tiny house so our porch is the size of our entire living and dining room together. I have used the porch for a play area for the kids since they were babies. :)

Aahh, more inspiration! : ) My current front porch looks much like yours but someday...There's nothing better than a welcoming and relaxing front porch to relax on with a good book!

I also have some wonderful memories of that same veranda/porch from years gone by. Didn't we just have a blast there? And then again on your porch in the old house? We never did sit on the porch in the Victorian but sure enjoyed being in the swing in the back yard. If you wait long enough, maybe I'll get down there and help you build a porch on this house! Can you wait?? Or you and "Farmboy" are more than welcome to come and enjoy ours at the lake - more a deck than porch but it sure feels the same... Keep up the blogging. It's wonderful!
