Our Kitchen In Black And White

I thought I'd share with you some
photo's of our kitchen.

It's one of the two rooms left to be renovated.

(Blogger is acting up!)

It's a room in transition
with two white appliances
and a new
stainless steel refrigerator
and stove.

I have plans to paint the cupboards
after adding a small crown molding
to the top and bottom
but there's no use starting
that until we do the other
renovations.

One day we'll have bead board
ceilings and crown molding
 different open shelves
and the old wallpaper
will be removed.

See the bricks in between
the fridge and the open shelves?
Hubby wants to tear that unused
chimney out and re-arrange
that corner.

We're thinking of building
the fridge into the corner
angled and then having
open shelving on both
sides with a bit of a counter
and then hidden shelving underneath.

Any thoughts on this?

I'd love to hear what you have to say.

So there you have it.

It may not be a fancy kitchen
but it's well used and loved
and suits this old farmhouse
and that's all that's important
to us.

Do you love your kitchen?

At the moment, I don't love my kitchen.
I think that your kitchen looks fine. I do like the ideas you have. I am working on DH with the beadboard ceiling here. I think he needs to see a picture.
Have a good night and stay warm tomorrow.

Your plans sound like they'll result in a beautiful kitchen, but you know, I love it the way it is.

I like your kitchen, I have always loved tables in the kitchen. I have a big kitchen with an 8' island and it is nice but I still love the older kitchens best. I know open shelving is the thing right now and I have had it before, but your dishes get dusty, unless you use everything all the time. Good luck with the remodel! :D

It's a really cute kitchen Maura! And I love your ideas, I want hubby to paint our cupboards too!
You have such great style and I always love coming over to check things out!

First of all, I LOVE American refridgerators! Yours is especially BIG and cool! Personally I love a blend of materials. I would find some way to incorporate the brick in your kitchen. My daughter says find an apartment with brick elements would be a dream come true for her. So for many the brick would be a big seller. Are the bricks painted or are they white?
I´m not completely satisfied with my kitchen no...but no money to do anything about it right now, so I try really hard not to focus on it...it´s functional and that is most important but it can definitely be better! :-)
I love black and white photos and your kitchen films very well in B&W! Have a great day!!!

Hi Maura....sounds like your kitchen will be lovely when you get all that done. I worried about the fridge in the corner....will you be able to open the doors the whole way flush...so that you can remove drawers if needed? Just a thought that popped into my pea brain. I love the idea of the bead board ceiling....can't wait to see the finished room!!! Happy remodeling.

Maura....I love your kitchen! We have that same brick fireplace running down the wall in our farmhouse! I'm sure whatever you do will look great as your entire house is sooooo cute and homey! I love the black and white pics, like stepping back in time to an old t.v. show, reminds me of the
I Love Lucy show kitchen once they moved out to the country!!!! I am a Lucy nut!!!!

Your kitchen is lovely and makes me want to sit right down to enjoy the simple life with a cup of tea.

I love my kitchen now that we've opened it up to what was the utility room. I call the new space 'the scullery' because that's where I wash dishes. It's all tiny, but we've a lot more space than we had and I love it and am appreciative for DH's creativeness in the remodel.

Keep enjoying that wonderful kitchen of yours and thank you for sharing it.

I think your kitchen looks charming and perfect for a farmhouse. I do not love my kitchen, but the remodel is not in the budget this year. So I might just paint the cabinets and see if that helps.

I remodeled out kitchen a few years ago and although I do love it, I miss my large country kitchen in the hold house we have. Your kitchen looks nice even in black and white!

You're fortunate to have such a large kitchen; I like the little fabric skirts in it. Mine is small (no room for a table) but with a good amount of counter space. The house was built in 1954 and I had it redone about 18 years ago, then a new floor and counter this year. I painted the cupboards too, because they just didn't seem as white as they used to be. How nice that your husband is handy; that will save on labour costs!

I love showing the kitchen in black and white (and sunflowers). It looks so nice and old fashioned and the microwave tells us different. Simply lovely photos - can't wait to see the results of the make-over. I don't envy you that period - but it will be nice when it is done.

I love the way you've done the pictures black and white with the spot of color on your flowers. Such a talented sister! I was also wondering if you'd be able to open the doors to the fridge all the way if you put it in the corner? I really like the bricks, too, but I know that however you do it, it will be wonderful. The very best thing is that it's always welcoming when you're there ... so cute to see Chelsea napping on the floor beside her bed! What a wonderful home...miss you...love you... Scufty xoxoxoxo

I like your kitchen. It looks so cozy and does have the old farmhouse feel to it. I've never seen a refrigerator angled in a corner so I don't know what to think about that.
I love my kitchen. When we built our new farmhouse style kitchen, I wanted old, worn looking cabinets and that's the effect I got. I need to do a post about my kitchen some time.
Thank you for sharing. The black and white photos are really neat. :)
