Our Dining Room

I hope your part of the world is cooler than
ours.

Yesterday (Sunday) we broke a record
dating back to the 1800's
and reached a blazing
temperature of
111 !

On Sunday we decided to head to our favorite
Antique Mall
on the edge of the city
where at least we were 'out and about'
but not out in the heat.

We were amazed with the number of
people who must have thought
the same thing!

This post isn't about the
Antique Mall though
as I never even
thought to bring my camera...
but next time I'll phone ahead
and ask if it's ok.

I did buy a few little things
at the mall but I'll
get pictures of those
for my next post.

For now though...here
are a few pictures of our dining room.
I didn't take a picture of the other
end because I need to dust!!!

The door on the left leads to our
partial basement and where
we run when there's
a tornado warning.
(Well at least one of us runs there)

Looking through into the tiny living room

The wood stove is all ready for this fall.
I love the fire but I don't even
want to think about it right now!

In this last picture you can just see
a bit of the kitchen.

Well...I hope you enjoyed your visit...
next time I will show you my
antique mall
treasures ;)

I'm joining CIELO from
The house in the Roses
again for

Have a wonderful week!

Maura :)

Hi Laura, I noticed you have a shalaylee hanging on the side of your hutch. We have one as well. Brought it back from Ireland some 25 yrs ago. Your dining room is very cute and welcoming.

Hi Maura
Your dining room is so light and airy looking.
You've chosen very calming colors-so nice.
You have my sympathy-that heat sounds unbearable. It seemed hot here at 84 yesterday.
I'm definitely going to quit complaining!

Lovely! My dining room is still a work in progress. I love your china hutch; I am looking for one just like it. :)

I have my eye on that white hutch. It looks like you have some fabulous dishes. Gorgeous, welcoming room. Hope it cools down soon for you. It was so humid today I couldn't let the dog out. Hugs, Deb=^..^=x4

Your dining room is so bright and cheery. That fireplace must make it feel lovely and cozy and warm in the wintertime. But like you, I don't want to think about heat at the moment. I'm sure your kids treasure the things made by their great grandmother! I do.

Maura ~ what a lovely dining room. It is so comfy ;-)

It's hot and humid here too! I'm sure we didn't get anywhere near record setting but it a little difficult to camp in weather like that, which is what we did!

I just love your dinning room. It's so cozy and comfortable looking. I have to admit your wood stove has me a wee bit jealous! I just love wood stoves so much, I dream of adding one to our home.

Love your dining room, Maura. It looks so serene but yet cheerful. I also like how you have that big window in there, so that the room gets a lot of light. That's pretty rare for a dining room.

There's so much light. I love it. You have it decorated so tastefully. You have such an eye. Thanks for showing us.

Wow, 111! I haven't been in heat like that since I lived in Phoenix. Not to rub it in but we just don't get that hot here by the coast of Washington state.... although right now I'd like to stay up close to 70 if possible!

My daughter and her boyfriend are moving home from Toronto as I write this so I've been following the US weather... I saw that Oklahoma and that area is scorching! I hope you all get some relief soon!

PS I'd be running for that door too :)

So clean and fresh looking, love it! 111, wow I just can't imagine, we get to 90 here and everyone complains of the heat but I love to going swimming in the pool on those days!

Maura, that record that was broken was from 1980 instead of the 1800's. That was the Summer we had 110 for several days. Tonight I heard on the news that Hutch was the hottest in the nation at 112. It was so miserable, wasn't it? Today wasn't much better.
I can't wait to see what goodies you found at the A Mall.
Your dining room looks wonderful!!

Hello Maura! I just found your blog and have been browsing the different posts and pictures that you have. I am truly enjoying my visit :)
Years ago, we lived in Derby (for about 18 months) and found a beautiful Christmas tree farm near Yoder (can't remember the name of the tree farm though!). We went there for years, even after moving back to Oklahoma. It was such a great experience for our kids. I remember seeing a bit of the Amish but never got to go to the town of Yoder itself..maybe someday. Rural life in Kansas is a bit different than Oklahoma. At least it seems that way to me. It's a regular way of life up there while, where we're at between two large cities, it's not so much so. We live out in the country on 160 acres but we only have cattle and a couple of horses and hubby works in town only about 15 minutes away.
I love your little cottage! We have a beautiful new 'farmstyle' house that is quite large but, if I had to do it over again, I think that I would like to have a cottage style home. :)
I have just started a blog, so stop by for a visit sometime!
A new follower~

I love your dining room...and the shade of yellow you've chosen. It's so cozy and inviting. Just the style I love. Have a nice evening and stay cool! It's HOT here in MO, too. My potted flowers are suffering big time.

Love your dining room Maura, but did have a giggle about the dust, you know we would never have seen it on the screen LOL!

Doesn't yellow make you feel happy when you walk into the room? I love my kitchen being painted butter yellow.

You can send some of that heat our way, we are still very cold here in Melbourne.
Hugs,
Sandi

Hi Maura
I like your dining room, open and airy looking with pretty lace curtains. Many areas are experiencing very hot weather, we're lucky that we've only had a couple of days.
