Morning In The Garden

Lizzy licking her lips after climbing into the watering can for a drink

The weather here in Kansas
has been strange this spring.

Last weekend we had temperatures
in the triple digits with high winds.
Not good conditions for painting the house.

The last couple of days we've been
waking up to temperatures
below 50 and it never got much
above 60 in the afternoons.
Definitely not usual weather for this area.

Wind has been a real problem
but one day last week
we finally got good enough
weather to go back to painting.

We didn't get much done as hubby's
knee has been very sore
and he was waiting to have
surgery which he finally
had yesterday.

Olly walking across the new lawn

If you look closely at the photo above
you'll notice all the little green things in the dirt.
It's elm tree seeds that have sprouted.
They're everywhere!
It seems every so many years elm trees
have more seeds than usual and this year
seems to be the year for ours.
:(

Looking forward to the flowers
and greenery spilling out of the
baskets on the bike.

I hope your weather has been better
than ours
and I hope you have a
wonderful weekend
doing something fun!

Maura :)

Maura ~ So sorry to hear about the weather and I hope hubby's knee heals quickly. It's drizzling here in Ontario but it's warm and it's Saturday so I'm smiling ;-)

Hello MAura, first I hope your Husband is recovering well from his surgery.
Your photos are just beuaitful, as always. I particularly liked the mail box!
Its a shame you are not allowed to send plant matter through the post, it would be such fun to grow one of your elms, here in England!
We have been into Taunton, which is a large town about 30 mins drive away, to order trellis, posts, gravel and stuff for the garden.I can't wait to get started on somewhere to sit outside.
The sun is shining here and there are lots of people up the Tor, despite the wind.
Have a great weekend.

Hasn't the weather been bizarre? Here in NE KS it is the same. Too cold (48 degrees) to be outside working in yard for fun. Love you photos, always feels like a tour. Thanks.

Love all your garden ideas...The weather is so unpredictable, 2 days ago it was 88 today 48. But nevertheless it is nice to look outside and see the flowers blooming or getting ready to. I love viewing all your pictures. A~

We have had crazy weather here to, went from cold and rainy spring to last week hot and humid, now back to cool and rainy! Love your planter mailbox....so cute! Yes, our maples do the same thing as your elms every other year and it is a pain trying to get all the seedlings out of the flowerbeds!

Maura, your photos are always so lovely. Your yard looks wonderful and I love your crafty touches. The weather here is cold and wet, unfortunately for me rain is forecast for the coming week, not much gardening going on here, I'm taking my rug hooking out of mothballs! Best wishes to hubby on a speedy recovery. Hugs, Julie.

I always love my visits to your farm, Maura :) I am eyeing a bicycle very much like yours (if it's still there!) for $100 at a local antique shop. I'm just looking for a 'sign' I guess that it should be mine. Love your mailbox planter also.. how clever!

It made my day that you found a 'bee tip' that would be helpful on the blog. We are so green and new to this bee thing, and relying on hubby's friend to help us out. I think we need to invest in a bee book next! Let me know how your bees do!

Thanks for the nice visit. I enjoy your music too... and of course the beautiful photos. Have a wonderful Sunday! -Tammy

Hi Maura,
I love all of your charming pics! Have your lilac's bloomed yet?
We have had a crappy spring, just a few warm days and we are so behind on things blooming here.
take care,
Cindy

You have a blue bike with a basket of flowers too! I just visited another blog that had one I loved. I guess I'm going to have to look for one. Too cute!
We have had the exact same weather. I still need a couple of painting days for the horse shelter and fence. Wish the wind would stop blowing ~ hot or cold. So grateful for the rain we got though.

Hi Maura: Your garden is looking so pretty, everything in bloom, and bursting with color, of course I'm partial to your blue bicycle, I guess that must have been a popular color the year our bicycles were manufactured :)
What a lovely mailbox, such a cute idea.
Kitty is precious, and posed for you !
Hope your husband has better luck with his knee than I have !
Do you need any cicadas ?

Everything looks so pretty, Maura. I love the mailbox planter. We've been having so much rain lately, and more in the forecast this week.
(our computer is still out of commission, I'm using hubby's today)

Enjoy your day!

I always enjoy visiting your blog, Maura. You have such beautiful photos and I love the glimpses of the farm. The weather here in neighboring Missouri has been strange too. After very hot days, we've had chilly and rainy days. The sun is finally shining today, but it's still chilly! Have a great day.
