Our Weekend (Part2)

It's wonderful to be
outside working in the dirt
after what seemed like a
very LONG winter.

It was a busy weekend
but a good one.

While hubby worked on the
picket fence
I planted hosta's
ferns and columbine
in the shade garden.

I've still got a lot more to
buy and plant
but we're going to have to
do a bit at a time.
Perennials are SO expensive!

Here's a few more pictures
of the start of the
fairy garden.

If you look closely
above the windows
you'll see something
amber...it's a
lantern
that comes on
when it get's dark!

I'm sure I'll find little
things here and there to
add as time goes on.

If you look closely in the above picture
you will notice a curving line
in the soil in front of the
trees.

It took me two days to put
all these rocks in place.
You're only seeing the
tops of most of them
as many of them are
over 7" deep
5" wide and
12" long.

There was LOTS of digging
and lifting involved so by
 the time I was done
my arms felt a
couple of inches longer!

A few of the rocks were
about this size.

Once the plants are in place
it will be time for mulch.

If you look closely at those photo's above
you'll notice little white things
in the garden area and where
the  new lawn is starting to
grow.
It's elm tree seeds!
You know what I'll be pulling up
for some time to come.

Unfortunately the lilacs are
about done.

I'll miss them when they're gone
so I've been trying to
get a whiff of them as often
as I can.

Chelsea likes to come with me when
I walk the lilac lane to the mailbox.

This is a 'hitching post'
that we found in the old barn
before it burned down.
I had hubby put it out by the
picket fence.
One day maybe I'll
 have a horse again!

Me in my flattering overalls
looking up at hubby
in the JLG lift.
After this picture was taken
I went up with him.

The picture above shows you our
lilac lane with the lilac
grove on the right and our south pasture
on the left. The house actually sits sideways
on the property and looks out on the lilacs
and pasture.
The road in the background is the dirt road
we take either to town or to the city.

See that orange rust colored thing
in the center of the picture?
That is our propane tank and it
was once bright white.
This is what our water does when it
touches it.
This is why we can't paint the fence white!

This last picture is hubby's brother
burying the foundation of our
old barn that burned.
You can see some of the tree's
that were damaged in the fire.
Some of them are starting to leaf out!

So as you can see it was a very busy weekend.
Lots of work...but it felt great.

Have you got some outdoor projects going on
right now?

Have a wonderful week!
Maura :)

Your gardens are going to look wonderful. I love your fairy garden soo cute.Your hubby did a fantastic job on the picket fence. Papa here will be making and building a picket fence this summer in his wood shop for me and I will paint it white to match our house. I have to wait a bit for sun so I can plant my first batch of plants it has been raining for days here. Have a wonderful day.

You are proof that creating a Children's Garden is futile. Build to the imagination of grown-up children & EVERYONE is happy.

Lilacs don't do well in my zone.

You don't want a white fence anyway.

Love/adore your entry lane. Simple, potent.

How I miss my dog Suzy, always with me in the garden.

Do you have an Extension Service Market Bulletin to find cheaper perennials?

Garden & Be Well, XO TAra

I have fallen in love with the faerie garden and wish to live there always!

Have a lovely Spring day!

It's a rainy day here in MO so I'm trying to catch up on blog reading. I've been missing out on a lot of good stuff! Your flower garden with the rock border is coming along great. That is a lot of work! Love the rocks and wish I had some of them! And the fairy gate and all...wonderful! I also love the fencing your hubby did, great job. I'll be showing these photos to my hubby...you gave me an idea. He'll thank you for that...:D

Wow Maura, I think you've been more than busy! I love the new curved fence, that is so unusual. The little fairy garden is very cute and the tree seems like the perfect spot for it.

And of course, your lilacs are gorgeous... if I was you I'd just sit out next to them while they were in bloom so that I wouldn't miss a minute of their scent :)

Can't wait to see all of the other projects you'll be completing this spring and summer,
Chris

The fairy garden is adorable! Our weather hasn't been very condusive to outdoor projects, but we've had about 1 full day of sunny (relatively calm) weather the last two weekends and sun with 61 degrees predicted for this weekend (YES!!), so I'm hoping to get out more. I'm way behind in weeding and my hubby is itching to get my new hoophouse green house built.

Maura, your yard is gorgeous! It wore me out looking at the photos and I have purple crocks just like yours!
We've got to replace a retaining wall. It was made with landscaping timbers and the termites have been snacking on them for the past few years. That's our big upcoming project. We also need to tame some weeds by the pond. And we will be brush hogging the pastures soon.

Oh how I'm itching to get out into my own garden after looking at all your pretty photos. Our weather here is so cold still although the trees are begining to show signs of life.

I love your shade garden. The border looks amazing, so very worth all your hard work. Can't wait to see it all planted, mulched and the grass growing bright green - - it's going to look amazing!

You have really been busy!!! The fairy door in your shade garden is sweet! Maybe you can find a fellow gardener in your area who has plants to divide, or that you can take cuttings from. Your house is going to look so pretty in yellow! Pale pink fairy roses would look nice on your fence. Or big texas-yellow climbers. Whatever you decide, it's going to be gorgeous!

Your work with rocks looks great! And those babies are heavy!! Your zone must be warmer than mine as all that is blooming are daffodils and my violets. The miniature iris are almost finished and it makes me so sad to see them for such a short time. I love playing in the dirt, too. ♥♫

It still too cold/rainy here to get into the gardens, although things are really bursting through the ground! I need to tidy them up. I can't wait for our lilac to bloom...it's my absolute favorite, but it'll be about another month. Thanks for sharing yours!

Hi Maura, What a fantastic place you have. I truly love your garden pics, especially the lilac lane. If only lilacs lasted all summer! I can empathise with you on building the curved rock border (I have moved literally thousands in my gardens). You did a terrific job and it was done perfectly by burying the rocks deep. With all that work at least you can be assured that they will stay put forever. Keep posting pics of your progress, thanks, Sandy

Ricominciare a vivere in un nuovo posto è cosa parecchio complicata e noiosa. Dalle foto fai vedere che gli esterni sono molto ampi ed accoglienti. Verrà, certamente, fuori qualcosa di elegante. Come la musica.
Start life anew in a new place is what a lot of complicated and boring. From the photos you see that the exterior is very spacious and welcoming. It will certainly out something elegant. As the music. Complimenti.Ciao. Domus

You have been working hard in your yard. It is looking great! Cute ideas!
I found your blog today and spent alittle time reading. It sounds like you aren't too far from me. I believe we go to the same flea market!!
Have you been as tired of this cool weather as I have been? It sounds like Spring is finally coming back today. Going to enjoy it and hope you get a chance to, also.
