I'd Rather Be....

...in my garden.

I'm sure every one of us would rather be in
their garden right now.
Some of you lucky ones are probably
already out there having fun in the dirt
like my blogging buddy Cynthia from

But...this is what it looked like
Tuesday here in our part
of Kansas.

We were lucky
as we got more wind than snow
with this last winter storm.

I know some of you out there got hit
pretty bad. This has been
a terrible winter for many of you
in the east and northeast and
some in the mid-west.

I'm afraid spring will be a long way
off for many of us this year so
if you are like me...you will be spending
some of that indoor time thumbing through
seed catalogs and dreaming of getting
your hands dirty.

This is what I dream of when I think of spring.
These photo's are of the
first year of our front garden when
we lived in the city.

It was a LOT of work putting this garden in
as we started from scratch with
hard clay soil.

After LOTS of compost, manure,
and lots of other good stuff
we were ready to start
planting.

By the time we left the city for the country
the garden was 5 years old
and was a well established
cottage garden full
of David Austin
climbing and
shrub roses
and many other perennials.

Looking back at these photo's makes me
realize how much work we have in store
for us here in the country.

The picket fences have to be finished before
we can start on the garden but
I've already got drawings
made and my plant list
started.

COME ON SPRING!

I'm linking with Tracie from

I hope you'll pop on over to visit Tracie's
wonderful blog and check out
all the other garden bloggers
who are taking part
this week!

Are you already making plans for your garden?

Oh, Maura, i am so feeling the same about being ready for spring...Here in the Northwest; we have really had a mild winter (so far) compared to the rest of the country. Amazing, because we usually have a lot more freezes & snow. My roses are already getting new growth on them & i'm praying we don't see a freeze this feb. / mar. ugh. i think i will cry if i loose anymore in my garden (i already see a lot that looks like it may not be coming back this spring)...
I hope you link your post to Cottage Flora Thursday's -at Fishtail Cottage - your garden looks so pretty...

Hmm. Yes, extreme. Beyond endurance.

You made me realize my new Conservatory is giving me precious moments in extreme weather. A new view of nature. Another axis.

Yet, I have to plan for it. Timing with work schedule, getting the fire going.......

All worth it.

Loving my pink camellias in full glory now.

Garden & Be Well, XO TARA

Beautiful gardens Maura! Yes, I'm planning and like you I have a lot of work ahead of me. For us, there are also a lot of unknowns such as possible additions which make it all themore difficult to plan wisely but it's still good to day dream!

Hey You! Thanks for the sweet shout out!! what a surprise...I know what you mean about birds on the fruit trees but we have other “varments” problems. beginning with the letter R and ending in T! gross...Southern California is full of them ...I’ve seen them running across power lines in Beverly Hills! Many people here put a huge net like canopy over their trees to keep out the critters...maybe that will work for you. I pick my persimmions before they are ripe and store then in the garage where they ripen more slowly and I don’t lose that many of them that way. Keep cozy Amiga!

I'm right there with you! I've decided next week will be garden planing week. I really need to organized my thoughts. One think I know for sure, I'll be adding more roses and zinna's. Maybe even a climbing rose if I can figure out where to put it.

Maura, I still have planted very little in our new yard. It is so desolate compared to our former home where we lived for almost thirty years.

I can't tell you how many times I have started over again. Nothings wants to thrive here.

I don't have any formal flower beds around our home. Just looks like no gardener lives here. LOL!

We did buy some new trees to put out, but the weather has slowed us down for now. I am planting bulbs and lilies and things like that for my quick fix in the garden. Hubs is planning on a wonderful garden again.

Hope you are staying nice and warm.

Maura, Spring will be here soon! Atleast we don't live in Chicago, Massachusetts, Maine or Canada! I love all your garden pictures, very pretty!

Oh how I love the Spring floral photos. I do, however, try to enjoy the winter while it's here (even with our 3-4 feet of snow we now have). I love looking through seed catalogs and drooling over all the beautiful flowers and vegetables.
Have a great end of the week.

Hi Maura, I sympathize with all of you who got hit so hard this winter...! I have a friend in Iowa who has a huge wonderful garden, and I know she's in the same boat as you. But when spring does, it'll be lovely to see photos of your garden! See you over at Flora Thursday...

I am right there with you-longing for spring and flowers. Looks like you did get hit but glad it wasn’t too bad. It sure looks pretty. I can’t wait to see what you do with your gardens. I know they will be gorgeous like the ones above. Enjoy your gardening catalogs and planning. It will be here before we know it :)
