Our Dining Room

I hope your part of the world is cooler than
ours.

Yesterday (Sunday) we broke a record
dating back to the 1800's
and reached a blazing
temperature of
111 !

On Sunday we decided to head to our favorite
Antique Mall
on the edge of the city
where at least we were 'out and about'
but not out in the heat.

We were amazed with the number of
people who must have thought
the same thing!

This post isn't about the
Antique Mall though
as I never even
thought to bring my camera...
but next time I'll phone ahead
and ask if it's ok.

I did buy a few little things
at the mall but I'll
get pictures of those
for my next post.

For now though...here
are a few pictures of our dining room.
I didn't take a picture of the other
end because I need to dust!!!

The door on the left leads to our
partial basement and where
we run when there's
a tornado warning.
(Well at least one of us runs there)

Looking through into the tiny living room

The wood stove is all ready for this fall.
I love the fire but I don't even
want to think about it right now!

In this last picture you can just see
a bit of the kitchen.

Well...I hope you enjoyed your visit...
next time I will show you my
antique mall
treasures ;)

Have a wonderful week!

Fruit Pizza

I found this recipe many years ago
when I lived in the mountains of
British Columbia.

I fell in love with it!

I think the first time I made it I used
Kiwi, strawberries and cantaloupe.

Since then I've made it with halved
grapes and honey dew melons...
you can use any in season fruit
and it will be
delicious!

Here's the recipe.

Fruit Pizza

Crust
1 1/4 C flour
1/3 C brown sugar
3 TBSP icing sugar
2/3 C softened butter

Mix all 4 ingredients together in a bowl
until it forms a ball. Press on the bottom
of a regular sized pizza pan.
Bake 350' for about 10-15 minutes
or until golden brown. Cool.

Topping
1 package of cream cheese softened
1/2 C sugar
1 tsp vanilla

Beat all 3 ingredients together.
Spread over cooled cookie crust.

Arrange any kind of fruit you like
on top in a circle.

Glaze fruit using a prepared glaze or
make your own using:
1/4 C apricot Jam or Marmalade
mixed with 1 TBSP of water.
Mix well and rub through a sieve.
Brush all over the fruit.

Chill Fruit Pizza before cutting into wedges
with pizza cutter.

ENJOY!

Welcome Guests!

It's that time of year when many of us
look forward to traveling and
visiting friends and
relatives.

Or
we look
forward to receiving
friends and relatives that we
haven't seen for a while.

Our guest room is ready :)

It's a cute room with lots of light
on the south west corner of the cottage.

The lamp on the left was my gr-grandmothers

This room is right off the living room
and right next to ours through
that door on the left.

I know...but it locks!

What's neat about our little
cottage is that every
bedroom (3) has two doors.
This is wonderful for air circulation
both in the summer and winter
and every room except the
laundry room/back porch
has a ceiling fan.

You need that here in Kansas
as it gets VERY hot.

When triple digit temperatures
are here...like now...
you really appreciate that air movement.

Yes we do have central air conditioning :)

This pretty rose sign
hung above our
front porch
in the city.

Never thought I'd see the
day that sign would come down
and end up in a farm cottage in the
country.

So glad it did!

Love the details on this
vintage lamp
I bought in the small town
near us.

This room looks out to the lilac
grove that runs along
the lane
to the cottage.

It also looks out onto the
Annabelle Hydrangea's
that grow along the front of the cottage.

I found this chair years ago at a garage sale
in the city. I meant to re-paint it
but I just can't bring myself to do it.
Maybe one day.

Above is a little hand made
Amish girls dress pinafore apron and cap
that I bought near the
Amish community not
far from us.

Even the hanger is hand made.

This is the Edwardian wedding sheet
I bought at the big
Flea Market
not far from us this spring.

If we have company I will remove
this sheet which I just put
on top of a regular ruffled
sheet.

The pillow is a garage sale find.

Have you got your guest room ready?

I hope you have a WONDERFUL week!
