Beautiful British Columbia

I thought since the winter olympics are being held in British Columbia Canada that I would share some pictures of that beautiful province. I lived in British Columbia for over 30 years and my children all still live there. I lived in a ski town that recieves 40-60 feet of snowfall each winter...with the exception of an El Nino year...which happens to be happening this year much to the detriment of the Olympics. I hope you enjoy seeing what a beautiful part of Canada it is.

A Little Bit Of Me

I just thought I'd share a few pictures of our home with you. These were taken at Christmas this year...our first Christmas in this home and most of our decorations were still in boxes in one of our buildings here on the farm. We moved here from a beautiful HUGE Victorian home in a little farming town a few miles from here to this run down little farmhouse. We have since fixed the dining room living room and all  bedrooms but still have lots of work to do yet in the rest of the house. Since I haven't taken any new pictures you'll have to excuse the decorations!! I really like the white decorating theme but I have to admit I am a coward and just can't bring myself to paint my good antiques. Oh well...it's home and it's bright and cheery and it makes me happy. I hope you enjoyed a little glimps of our little farmhouse cottage.

Snips and Snails and Puppy Dogs Tails

Last September we brought home a puppy an Akbash to be exact. We were told that they are unlike any dog you've ever had before...they are from Turkey and are LGD's (livestock guarding dogs). Shep was 2 months old when we brought him home and we chose him from 8 puppies. Let me rephrase that...he chose us. While we were admiring the ladys fainting goats as the pups all ran around Shep laid down at my feet and licked my ankles. The whole time we talked to the lady and watched the other pups he stayed right by my feet. I was actually looking at one of the pups with longer hair...Shep was like his father with the shorter hair. In the end I just couldn't see how I could refuse this little guy...it was like it was meant to be. So little Shep road home on my lap...well I guess you could say that but most of him was hanging off my lap. When we brought him home he was about the size of our two little Shih Tzu's Chelsea and Bubba....but that didn't last long. Shep is now 7 months old and has been over 100lbs for at least a month. I must say...he certainly is a different dog but he is living up to his breed and I sure would't want to be a predator that's looking for a meal around our yard at night. On the other hand...he is a big softy when it comes to the other animals. He can be a pest to our other dogs sometimes but all three of them get along along just fine and it's a hoot to see two little Shih Tzu's chasing this huge white lummox all over the yard. Here are a few pictures of our Shep...the Akbash when we first brought him home and some taken now with the other dogs. And he's not done growing! 

Didn't do my homework!

Here is the dining room renovation although we have since added sheer cottage curtains, pictures and moved furniture around. We added crown moldings, sanded, painted, refinished floors...all done by my hubby and I . We renovated all 3 bedrooms, living room and dining room before we moved in. We still have the bathroom, laundry room/back porch and kitchen to do. Not to mention we have dirt work to do around the house and a front porch and screened porch planned. Makes me tired just thinking about it! It's a good feeling knowing that we are doing it all on our own although at our age (far side of 50) it's not as easy as it used to be.

I can see that I didn't do my homework before I started this blog! There is a lot to know about putting a blog together and one of the things you should know is how to get your pictures sized down to fit your blog and then be able to find them...and I'm struggling with this. So...if anyone stops by for a peek and doesn't see much...please come back and check on me as I will have more pictures once I figure this out.

Welcome to the farm!

This is the lane to our farm cottage and on the right up ahead is the grove of lilac bushes. We moved here in June last year so we didn't get to see the lilacs in bloom but we are told they are beautiful. Unfortunately the former owner told us that a freeze killed the buds last spring so there weren't many blooms...hopefully this spring will be a good on for the lilacs.
This is Shep our Akbash (Turkish livestock guarding dog). He was over 100 lbs at 6 months! He's only 7 months old now and still growing like a weed.
This is Phoebe our little dinky donkey and she is 10 months old. She's got an attitude that girl!

Since this is my first post I thought it would be a good idea to show you a few pictures of where this Blog originates from. Please keep in mind that this farm is a 'work in progress' and that's putting it mildly! This has been the coldest and snowiest (is that a word?) winter I have ever seen here in our part of Kansas. After moving here from a ski village in the mountains of British Columbia where we got 40-60 feet (yes feet!) of snowfall per winter the winters here were a breeze. However...after living here for 10 years I have now become a sissy when it comes to the cold and snow! I am anxiously awaiting spring like I'm sure many of you are. Since I am new at this blog thing I hope you will be patient with me as I try and figure this all out. Anyway...welcome to the farm!
