Tip Toe Through The Tulips

Well maybe not 'tip toe' through

them 

but we can at least

enjoy them 

;)

Thursday was our big grocery day

and I couldn't resist bringing

 home a pretty bouquet

of lovely spring tulips.

I was able to choose from pink tulips

and red and yellow and mauve etc

but these ones caught my eye.

I would LOVE to plant some

tulips here on the farm

but I'm afraid we have way

too many squirrels 

running around

and they

LOVE 

tulip bulbs.

So this past fall I planted daffodils instead.

Hopefully they will start to show

signs of life soon.

Until then...

I may just have to treat myself

again ;)

Poor hubby's back went out last

Tuesday and he has been up and down

since then.

I'm sure we'll be making a trip into 

the city to see his doctor tomorrow

but he says he's going to work tonight.

We'll see what happens when he get's up.

His big brother came over today  

and used the tractor to continue

cleaning out our hedgerow. 

I'm sure it's been many MANY

years since anyone has been able

to walk under those trees!

Mostly he is just cutting off dead limbs

and taking down dead trees that were 

burned when the barn caught fire. 

We had hoped that some of them would

recover and they did...at least partially. 

It's always sad when you have to take

a tree down but sometimes you

have no choice. 

Anyway...it's been a good weekend

and a sunny one.

Indian Summer

The past couple of weeks have been absolutely beautiful

here in south central Kansas.

Our temperatures have been in the low to mid eighties

with lots of sunshine.

We could use the rain but I'm afraid once it's starts it

will be the end to our beautiful

Indian Summer.

I decided to head outside with my camera to take a few

pictures while everything still looks bright

 and colorful.

The vegetable garden is still producing tomatoes.

LOTS of tomatoes!

Better than it did all summer actually.

The cats came with me as usual...they try not to

miss a thing.

I don't know what kind of a plant they were eating

but they acted like it was catnip!

Olly (Oliver) ate his fill and then went off to explore

but Lizzy stayed.

I think she knew I was taking her picture because she rolled

and rolled and flipped and put on a wonderful show for me.

The cats and I continued on our stroll around the farm.

I was actually able to find some RED leaves...yeay!

The Mums I put in the old wheel barrow are

loving all the sunshine.

We headed out to the mailbox to see the new

cover...I like it. Not that anyone else

can see it way out in the boonies

but I'm sure our mailman will enjoy a change of

scenery.

It was a beautiful day and I'm glad I was able to get some

pictures to look back on this winter.

Winter has it's beauty but Fall is the star of the seasons

for me.

Early Fall Collage

It's starting to feel like fall here on the farm

which is a nice change from the record

heat we've experienced this summer.

I love fall.

I love the cool evenings and the crisp mornings.

The way the light falls.

The goose down comforter is now on the bed

and it won't be long until we're

wrapped in warm fuzzy flannel sheets.

It's time to bring in wood for the fire.

Such a beautuful time of year.

Odds And Ends

A few photo's taken around the farm this year and in the cottage

After the rains from the long weekend our temperatures have soared back into the high 90's and the next two days will be 100.

My poor vegetable garden needs weeding badly but between the mosquitoes in the mornings and evenings and the heat the rest of the day I'm finding it hard to get out there other than to water and pick veggies. 

We have enjoyed a good harvest of squash tomatoes cucumbers and now the sweet corn is ready and soon the second planting of green beans will be producing. 

Our strawberry plants (4 varieties) are also starting to produce...it's their first year.

Most are small berries but there are a few good sized ones.

Next year will be better.
