Treasure Hunting!

Last month hubby and I attended the last

Flea Market of the season. 

There won't be another until September!

We're very lucky to have such a huge

Flea Market held every month

not far from us

and it's always a little sad to know

you'll have to miss a couple of months.

With temperatures in the triple

digits and no air conditioning 

in the building it's easy to 

understand why they shut it down for

the hottest months.

The first thing I spotted that made

my heart swoon was this sweet

cast iron barn.

It's HEAVY

I fell in love with it but I didn't buy it 

on the spot. I figured I'd come back

after we'd seen everything (and hope it

would still be there) as I had

something else that I was looking for that day.

Do you do that?

Go to Flea Markets or garage sales

looking for a specific thing?

I never found that 'thing' 

but this barn was still waiting for me

when we were done.

Woohoo!

I only paid $25 for it

because I 

bought the

wire basket below

along with it.

I also found this large basket

which is perfect for my knitting.

My day was going really well

and I was happy with the items that

I had found. 

I never did find the 'thing' I actually 

went there for (I can't even remember

what it was!) but then I spotted

this.

YES!....I had always wanted one

of these little red wagons

and this one was a real 'steal'. 

So we gathered up all my treasures

and packed them into my wagon and 

headed home.

I'll be looking forward to September.

In the meantime 

I made up for not having the 

Flea Market  this month

by talking hubby into taking me

to the 

HUGE

Antique Mall 

just on the edge of the city.

He'd much rather have a 

ROOT CANAL

than spend a few hours there

but he grinned and bared it...

cause he loves me ;)

And look what I found...

This sweet little half pint milk bottle

will work perfect for a vase

or anything else I choose to put in it.

I also found this white bowl 

that I've been using every

morning for my 

porridge.

But my favorite 

treasure of the day 

was this old handmade

Whirligig!

Isn't he cute...

as the wind blows the

propeller

his arms move up and down

as he chops the wood.

It's not exactly what you'd see here

on the prairies. Maybe a girl milking

a cow or a rooster pecking a cob of 

corn would be more fitting.

BUT

it reminds me of all the years

my kids and I chopped wood

when I lived in the mountains

in British Columbia.

Perfect!

An Edwardian Wedding Sheet

Last Sunday my Hubby surprised me

by asking if I'd like to go to the 

 Flea Market.

I had been thinking about it

because we had missed the 

last couple of months

but because he 

just had knee surgery 

less than two weeks ago 

I figured we'd just forget this one

and hit the last one in June.

Well heck YA...I jumped on that one

right away!

He promised me he'd stop and rest

if his knee got sore...

so off we went.

On the 3rd isle 

I came across a lady selling

antique linens. 

I wasn't going to stop because

I had my heart set 

on something else but some

antique lace caught my eye.

Lo and behold I hit the 

MOTHER LOAD!

I found a beautiful

hand made

Edwardian Wedding Sheet!

It is GORGEOUS!

Please excuse me for taking

pictures before I ironed it but 

this thing is HUGE

100"x114" 

and I'm back painting the outside

of the house again so 

ironing will have to wait!

The handmade lace is so delicate.

This little corner above is the only

damage that I can see.

There are a couple of tiny spots

on the linen but they may come out

with a little tender loving care.

There is also a monogram

but I'm not sure what the letters are. 

This is how it sits on the sheet.

The sheet 'turns down' 36 inches.

I was in a hurry to take pictures

so I just used this quilt for now.

I'll soon be switching

to a summer comforter

which I think will look better.

Thanks to my hubby for suggesting 

we go...even though he had to sit down 

less than half way through

and still told me to 

"go have fun!"

So I did.

I also found this "Tea Towel" 

as my English Nana 

called them.

She explained many 

years ago that ones like these

were used for drying your 

crystal and silverware

as they didn't leave

lint.

I think this one is much

too pretty to use.

Can you imagine

going to all this work

just to dry something!

I saw this tiny cast iron

flying pig

and just had to buy it.

Isn't he cute!

I'm not sure what I'll do with the old

 feed sacks

but I liked them and they were 

inexpensive so I bought them.

Last but not least I found this 

old wooden ladder.

It's been cut in half

but it's the perfect size

for in the house

once I wax it.

I had a great time

and Hubby said he had 

fun "people watching". 

I wonder if I'll get him to 

go next month ;)

We Have A Winner!...And Flea Market Trip

Choosing the winner was a bit 

different than I had planned.

I was going to get DH to pull a

name out of the hat this morning

but I forgot that he was going to 

have lunch with his daughter on his

way home from work so would be late.

I was willing to wait.

However...as I got up to run to the bathroom

I knocked over the hat with all the names.

As I was coming back to the computer I saw

a little fuzzy feline running off with 

one of the names!

By the time I caught up with her she had

dropped the paper and had run off.

A light bulb came on and I thought

WHY NOT!

So Cindy...this is how your name was chosen.

Last month DH and I made it to the large

flea market that happens

every month except for July and August

not far from our home.

There were quite a few booths missing

this time but the weatherman had been

predicting bad weather so that probably explains it.

I had been looking for a large white enamel

pitcher but never did see one.

I did see lots of other items...

some even came home with us.

I love these teddies above

made from old worn quilts.

They may be raggedy to some

but to me they have history.

I love that old worn soft look.

And for $6.50 for both of them

I couldn't resist!

I also love aprons and this one

caught my eye right away.

Look at those hankie pockets!

See the button at the top?

How cute!

My favorite find was this mailbox.

It's an old one and attached to an

old farm hedge post!

It still has the name of the

original owners on the side.

The letters are pretty faded but in the sun

you can just make it out.

This baby will have a special place 

in the picket fence garden this summer.

I can't wait to get started planting

but I have to be patient.
