Bloggers Block!

See the stepping stones? They used to be cement gray!

Is it just me?

I'm having Bloggers Block
if you know what I mean.

The past few weeks I've been struggling
to find things to Blog about.

Spring was late arriving but when it did
we found ourselves scurrying around
trying to get everything done that
was put on hold.

That meant everything happened at once
and we're still trying to catch up!

I still haven't started my spring cleaning
and the fence isn't stained and we still
have trim on the house to paint.

And weeding...oh my...I don't even want to
THINK about that!

Maybe this is why I'm having trouble
with Bloggers Block?

While I was trying to think about something
to blog about this morning I remembered
that my friend John from
had asked to see more photo's
of our cottage.

Well John this post is for you.
Ok it's not all about the cottage but
I thought you'd like to see a bit more of
our little farm on the Kansas prairie.

Starting with the photo above
as most of you know this is actually what we call
the back of the cottage as it faces the back of
our farm. The opposite end faces
the street. Strange I know.

These two photo's are just of the yard
surrounding the cottage.

Above is the garden shed/chicken coop.
To the right of that is the vegetable and
herb garden and the strawberry patch.

Above is looking towards the back of the farm.
We put the pool up last weekend but we
have to get the rust out of the water
before we can use it or my white/silver
hair will turn orange!

The pictures above and below
are actually the real back of the cottage
as the front of the cottage is on the opposite
side. The two windows on the left
are the bathroom we just renovated.
The double window in the middle
is actually our dining room.
The tiny window next to that is the
stairway to the partial basement.
Where we would run for cover if a
tornado was heading for us.
The last window on the right is
to our master bedroom.

I just realized I've never shown this side
of the cottage before as it was so
ugly with blue paint flaking off!

These two photo's show the side of the cottage
that faces the road.
In the bottom picture you can see the actual
front of the cottage with the porch.

The pictures above and below
are what we see across the
road from our farm.

The picture below shows what people see
as they drive by our little farm.

The two pictures below are why
I LOVE living in the country.

Looking to the south...see those trees WAY
in the distance more than half a mile away?
That's our closest neighbor to the south.

In the picture above..see those trees
WAY in the distance on the right side
of the road?
That's our nearest neighbor to the north.
I could stand out on the road naked
and no one would see me!!!
Not that I'd do that ;)

I threw in this photo of Shep
our Akbash.
He looks small ...but he's HUGE.

Back down the lane to the cottage.
Cottage is on the left behind the lilac grove.
Our pasture is to the right.

Here's a couple of pictures of the cottage.
We still have to make shutters, stain the fence,
finish painting the trim, make a sidewalk
to the front door (which country people don't use),
plant grass between the fence and the cottage,
and one day down the road...build a screened porch.

Makes me tired just thinking about it!

Above is part of the view from the
back of our farm.
A creek runs along those trees.
The nearest farm behind us is a mile away
which we can't see.

I love it!

The last photo is the back of the cottage again.
Yes I do hang my clothes out to dry!

So there you have it.

John I hope you enjoyed the photo's
and for those of you who are bored with
seeing our farm....hopefully I'll be out
of this Blogging slump soon.

Amy...I'm thinking of you.

I hope you all have a WONDERFUL day.

Maura :)

Had a message here and blogger went down, so if you end up with two, that's why. Your cottage is lovely and what you've done is fantastic. When you are done it will be beautiful. Thanks for the tour.

I love your cottage and farmlands. What a peaceful place to live. I also have one of those 'solar dryers'. Love using it, have done so for years.

Enjoy that lovely, peaceful setting surrounding your sweet cottage.

Hi Maura,

Prudence & Sissy are at summer camp and I know they would love seeing these photos.

But, the computer is all mine and I just loved this tour. Thank you.

No, this former "jersey girl" never gets tired of life in the country.

What a wonderful cottage you have. It seems like it's out in the middle of nowhere, and it's beautiful ~ I'm used to having neighbors right next door. I would love to meander down the lane and out in the fields. I like your picket fence, and that you have space to hang clothes on the line.
Thanks for the tour!

It looks like you have your own private park! I have the same problem with blogging and having a "fresh" post. So I don't. I'm not after big readership, just making a record of what happens in my life so I can look back and see what was important to me. So much easier than trying to find a notebook around here. I can lose things in 5 minutes and not remember where they are. ;D ...Enjoy your time outdoors. The season is short. ♥♫

Hello Maura, well I for one loved your post! I LOVE your cottage and the area around it. Your blog is wonderful. We also have a cottage but in a more residential/rural area, similar colours outside to yours. Your pictures evoke a calmness, they are lovely! Take care, Ann ~ Australia.

Your home seems so nice and relaxing. I miss living in the country!I had to laugh at you mentioning standing out there naked. You know if you did that, that would be the time someone would stop by! LOL!

Did you make it to the flea market Sunday?

I really enjoyed this. Coupled with your soothing music made for a really nice post.

Thank's so much for all the pictures of your beautiful place. I can't imagine what it must be like to be that far from neighbors. You must really have awe inspiring skies at night with no town light to compete with. And it must be so quiet. No traffic. How wonderful. Thanks again for sharing.

I’m so close to my neighbors I can hear them pee when they go to the bathroom. nice.

Hi Maura!
Thanks for stopping by and grabbing my giveaway button.

Hey don't you ever worry about the photos you post of the farm, they are always beautiful and going by the former comments, none of us get tired of you sharing them. It's like a breath of fresh air to come and visit here.

Had a good giggle about you standing on the road naked!! That would be the same up on our property...6km from town, on a dirt road, surrounded by trees...I must post some photos some time.
Warmest hugs,
Sandi

Ah Maura, i love it. I can almost breathe the country air and hear the night time crickets! It is it's own little slice of heaven for sure.....going to get back to you on that sign today, just have to look at the website.....have a great weekend! :)devon

Truly lovely, Maura. You live in a beautiful place! It amazes me how flat things can be.....just the opposite of where I live. Here, it is hard to find a flat surface anywhere!! I will show pics of our countryside soon, too. Don't worry about Bloggers block....it is just temporary I am sure!!

Skogkjerring said...

Ahhh, those big open prairies of Kansas...your photos bring back a lot of memories of our years in Kansas. Loved how you could see the next town MILES AND MILES away because it was so flat and there was nothing between you and the town...

Your cottage is adorable and it is easy to see you´ve put your heart and souls into your home...the love shines through...and being the dog person I am, I´m so glad you added the photo of your big ol´dog...love him!!!

Sure you weren´t talking about me with your comment, "Amy, I´ll be thinking of you" but it was nice to see my name...and I´ll pretend you are thinking of me :-)) hehehehe....

Oh by the way, the other great part about living so private is not so much the standing naked in the road- because really- who does that??? BUT....sitting out on your porch in your nightgown reading the morning paper and drinking coffee and no one sees you- that is heaven...a perfect way to start the day!!! I also love that I can let my dogs out in my nightclothes and no one sees me...hehehehe...

Your place is truly amazing! I enjoyed seeing "parts" we haven't seen before and the new color is fabulous. I'm loving the new fence... I wish I could convince my husband of our need for one!!

And I hear you about "the block"... somedays I think up something and it just flies out of my brain before I get it on a post! Maybe I need to start writing the ideas down!

Looking forward to all of your summer pics,
~Chris

I am so envious of your space!! I wish I could move out of the suburbs! Maybe after we retire. I mailed your package today, so you should have it by midweek.

I do like your new fence. Once it is stained or painted it will look lovely.
I so miss country life. Waking up to birds, frogs, and the farm animals. It was the best.
We are townies for now. Maybe one day we will again be apart of the country life.
