Sue and I
It's hard to believe that it will soon be two years
since my Step Sister Susan (Scufty to me) came to
visit us when we lived in our old Victorian home. She was
here for nearly a month ...we got short changed with time but we had had a wonderful time just the same.
Sue and Donna
She and my sister in law Donna and I had a 'girls weekend' and took off to Springfield Missouri for a look around Donna's old stomping ground and then we headed south to
'Home of the Throwed Rolls' which just happens to be
my most favorite restaurant in the world...
The cute fellow who was kind enough to stop in mid throw for me.
For those of you who have never experienced Lambert's
let me explain why their logo is
'Home Of The Throwed Rolls'
You see...a fellow rolls around this trolley
as people are eating.
Then when you're least expecting it he yells
'Throwed Rolls'!
Well it's 'heads up' and people start standing up and yelling 'here' and that's when the fun starts.
OH MY...
The most delicious soft fresh rolls start flying through
the air. The aroma is out of this world and
the taste..is to die for.
This is the lunch size...we were there for supper once and the plate was even more filled!
By the way...this is their Chicken Fried Steak and it is the best I've ever had. Oh and if you think this plate is full...they come around with big bowls of fried potatoes and onions...fried Okra... macaroni and tomatoes and if you want some they put a HUGE scoop on your plate. Plus they come around again!
I was able to get a picture of our food but unfortunately
we all scarfed our rolls down before I could get a shot.
Never fear though...if you want more
just stand up and holler 'here'
and the fellow will throw
you another.
Sue admiring the huge insulated mug they serve coffee in. Isn't she cute!
From Ozark Missouri after waddling out to Donna's vehicle
we headed to Branson Missouri where we did a bit of shopping and then spent the night. The next morning we were off to Arkansas.
I love the hills.
Table Rock Lake
We finally arrived at our destination...
This is such a wonderful little town to visit...it is truly
a Victorian village with lots of quaint shops
and interesting places to eat.
Sue having fun shopping
The Crescent Hotel which is just up the hill from the village
There are buggy rides which take you around the village and then up into the residential area.
This would be the best way to see all the beautiful old homes as you can relax and not
have to worry about all the tight turns and narrow roads.
The little shops and restaurants are painted bright
Victorian colors.
I was too slow getting a photo of Sue and Donna walking under this sign ;-)
The village its self is nestled in a rocky little cleft in the Ozark Mountains and above the town district
is the residential area.
OH MY there are some of the cutest little Victorian homes
you could ever imagine. I'm sorry I didn't get many pictures
of the houses but it was February when we were
there and they had just cleaned up from a huge
ice storm and it was just a tad dull and chilly!
Many of these sweet little cottages are B&B's
We spent the night and then after doing a bit more shopping and looking around we were on our way back to Kansas.
It was a great trip home and Donna took us down back roads
through Arkansas. What a beautiful State and I can't wait to get back there again.
We brought home a few treasures but most of all wonderful memories to last us a life time.
Before we knew it ...it was time for Sue to head back home to Canada and all that snow.
Thanks for the wonderful visit Sis...it's been two years
... can't wait to see you again.
Donna...thanks for taking us!
XOXO
I think it's time to plan another girls weekend away ;)
Have you had a 'girls weekend' away?
If so I'd love to hear about it.
Enjoy your weekend!

That looks like a great trip! Thank you so much for sharing. Those houses look just like dolls houses. It's fascinating to see a new place through your blog : )
Maura, what a wonderful girl’s trip. I love to head off with my girlfriends and explore and eat--we always eat. If I make it that way-that restaurant looks like my kinda meal. I love country friend steak and how fun that they throw rolls. The victorian homes are so quaint and pretty. I bet you all had the best time. I would love a girl’s trip with you someday :)
Oh I adore Lambert's.. My parents used to live in Forsythe just 30 miles from Branson. We have spent MANY trips in Branson. I love tablerock lake. We've also stayed at the Cresent Hotel. You girls look like you had a fantastic trip. YUM YUM food.

Wow, this look like such a good time! The horse ride through the village sounds wonderful and such lovely homes there!
Also, forgot to say that the roll throwing thing is wonderful, just the kind of thing I love about America and miss so much, what a sense of fun!
Well, it sounds like you had a wonderful time and the pictures are lovely. But you correct in saying that the best is the "memories that last a lifetime", that is the best part of a trip.
The roll throwing - now that is something that I never heard of but sounds like a heap of fun.
Blessings, happy weekend, and you should be receiving an envelope in the mail from me.
Hugs,
Joyce
Sounds like a very lovely visit and time away with the girls. Eureka Springs has been on my list for a long time as a place I’d love to vist. Hope you are having a wonderful weekend sweet Maura..
That looked like a lot of fun - I'd love to stay in one of those cosy B&Bs!
I get a girls' weekend every spring with my sister and two friends. We head for WA and spend a weekend shopping, nattering, eating and laughing enough to last us all year!
It looks like you had a wonderful visit with you sister and SIL. It must be hard not to see her that often.
We have been to Branson several times over the years and of course to Eureaka Springs. We finally quit going to ES because it had changed so much. Years ago, it was the place to see all kinds of incredible artisians at work.I don't know what happened to them all, but some how it changed the town for us. I do love the old houses.
Arkansas is a beautiful state as well. I get a little road sick from the roads. LOL!
Doesn't look like ya'll found THE junk shop. Adore girl's weekends, finding the best thrift/junk shops. Food, laughter & etc...
Garden & Be Well, XO Tara
I enjoyed that tour, some places I have been and some not. Have seen and heard of Lamberts but didn't stop -darn it! Someday.
Thanks for sharing the photos of your great time with your sister and your visit to MO and Arkansas. I'm originally from St.Louis, so it was good to see photos of places in MO. Have heard of the 'throwed rolls', relatives have been there. Going to take a look around here at your blog. have a great day!
BTW, my sis in law loves her Buff Orpington chickens. She also has those kind with the feathery feet...
Sounds like a great time you all had !Love the photos! If the rolls hit the floor at all is there the 30 second rule lol Have a great day !
What a wonderful post today! That was one of the best trips I've ever taken. I felt so loved and spoiled - your readers should know that you ARE what you write. You're an incredible person with a HUGE heart. This was such a fun time - I'm vowing that we'll be together again soon and take another one. Or not....just being together is what is the BEST...sure love and miss you... Sister Sue
That brings back memories of a girls weekend I had with my daughter and daughter inlaw. It was about 4years ago my daughter and I flew into Little Rock where my daughter inlaw picked us up and we drove up to Branson and over to where Laura Ingals lived then back down to Memphis where my son was going to school at the time. It was such a beautiful drive!
Maura I was born and raised in MissouREE and Springfield is our second home and we have NEVER eaten at Lambert's. What is up with that?
Eureka Springs is a great destination for a girl trip. Your smiles are a joy to see. Glad you had such fun. You need to move to MissouREE Maura!
