Life On Hold

It seems our life is on hold at the moment.

The picket fence is on hold because we had to put in the insulated pipe for the new wood stove.
Now we are waiting for the
wood stove
which
should have
arrived yesterday but didn't.

So we have a hole in the ceiling...waiting.

Looking up into attic and beyond

This is where previous home owners put the stove pipe with single walled uninsulated pipe!
Thank goodness the stove people said with the new double insulated
stove pipes and shields that the wall will be safe.

Yesterday we drove a 40 mile round trip
to pick up the stove pipe.
So...now we have the
new stove pipe in and chimney cap on
but still waiting for the stove.
Sigh.

Today we need wood for the fence and arbor and my glasses need to be picked up. That's about 25 miles
to the south of us.
THEN...if they call about the stove we have to drive
the 40 mile round trip AGAIN
(once we get home).

That folks is one of the downsides to living in the country.

In between all this we have picked all the pumpkins.
If any of you live close enough to us
you are welcome to come
and get a few!

Yesterday these were still growing in the garden.

Romeo waiting to be let in the garden.

The 'girls' waiting...

They were predicting our first freeze last night so
yesterday DH and I went out and picked all the green tomatoes. We were shocked at how many we had.
The garden has done better this fall than it did all summer!
I didn't have time to take a picture so I'll try
and remember to do that today.

Anyway...that's been our life this week.

I hope your week has been a good one and you are going ahead full steam with all your projects.

Enjoy your weekend!

Maura :)

Maura, I wish I could stop by for a cup of tea and a pumpkin! It looks like you are enjoying a bumper crop. : ) I hope your stove arrives soon with freezing temperatures looming in your area. There's nothing quite like being able to warm against a fire in the winter, is there? We've also been having some cooler weather and may get our first freeze this weekend. I picked my last red tomato this week. Blessings!

Dear Miss Maura,

YIKES - what a week you have had. Romeo & The Girls are wonderful. Sometimes when things get really hectic it's soothing to just take a few minutes, sit back, and watch our pets. We can learn a lot from them.

Happy "stove" weekend. (o:

Living rural it seems we have to make every trip to the bigger city and way bigger city count to get what we need. Especially before the icy winter arrives. Your project is coming along nicely. Such ah feelin of accomplishment when done.

Good luck with your new wood stove project, you'll be warm and toasty this winter !
I still have flowers in full bloom, despite a few evenings of frost, and tonight a freeze warning.
Romeo looks up to the job ;)

It's so annoying when things don't come in like they are suppose to. I know you are anxious to get that stove in and burning. It will be great. Look at all your garden glories still coming on...that is amazing Maura. I would love to have a pumpkin or two, they are gorgeous. You must have planted a bunch? Romeo is a beauty!

Maura,
Your pumpkins look fabulous. The little strawberry? Well isn't that something! Your flock of "girls" looks very content.

I know what you mean about things being on hold. We're kind of in the mode here too... or at least I am. I seen to be waiting on my husband to finish something so that I can do my next project. Caulk a window, so I can paint it; sand the newly taped and mudded wall so I can prime; put up molding so I can finish painting a room; etc.

I'm sure you will really enjoy your new stove when the weather gets colder.

Maura it seems you have lots more patience than I possess. I would have a cranky going on but you have gotten together a beautiful fun post! Enjoy your beautiful weekend at Lilac Lane Cottage!

Hi Maura - I know what it is to be 'on hold'. We got quite a few projects accomplished last week, and they had us on hold for a bit. The chimney is re-certified after our fire (good thing you're getting yours done properly, and thank heavens you never had a fire!) and the heating system has been re-calibrated, so we're good to go for winter!

Maura,
Oh boy have I been there. Our first year of owning our farmhouse we had such hopes. Then the refrigerator went, then the washing machine went, then the stove went, then the furnace went. We thought the pellet stove went, but thankfully hubby figured out how to fix it. The next spring we started our list again and then our well pump went. We are now back on track. Life certainly continues to happen as we make plans.
Love the pumpkin photo. Wow! You are still getting strawberries AND tomatoes??? I'm so jealous. And poor Romeo - waiting for his turn. It's the simple things that make them happy. Ours were excited about pumpkin seeds yesterday. They chattered all day about them. I think they probably looked like bugs.
Have a great weekend.
