Cottage Hunting in England

I am sure that I'm not the only one who feels that selling my house and then searching
for another is an adventure.

To me and I'm sure to many of you ...it's the
'thrill of the hunt'
that makes it exciting.

You never know what sweet 'treasure' is
out there waiting for you to call it 'HOME'.

My sister in England ...and her husband are
trying to sell their home and move
closer to their children and grandchildren.
The kids live in a charming little village
far enough away from London to feel
like they are in the country but just
20 minutes on the train and they are in the city.

Can you imagine how exciting that would be...hunting
for a little cottage in a small English village that is close
enough to travel back and forth to the city for work
or just to shop for the day!

Oh my.

I know my sister doesn't find this as exciting as I do
but then she's lived in England all her life and has
worked in London since she was a teenager.
I guess the 'adventure and romance' of the whole experience isn't quite the same for her.

That's ok...what she lacks in adventure...I'll make up for
with excitment!

When I think of English cottages I think of cozy little homes with wonderful character like the home my sister lives in now.

I think one of my favorite 'visions' of the perfect cottage
is the one found in the movie
The Holiday.

Have you seen it?

The cottage from 'The Holiday'.

The Entry
I love the front door.

The Living Room

Another view of the living room

The kitchen...love the fireplace and those blue cupboards!

The little library. I love all the built in shelves.

The bedroom..love the bed and fireplace.

The bathroom. Think of the wonderful 'soak' you could have in that tub!

I doubt very much my sister will be looking for a
cottage in the country like this one but I'm
having fun dreaming about it.

Good Luck Sis!

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend.

Maura :)

Hi

I lived in a cottage in Twickenham before I remarried and moved here. We decided to move nearer to where Phil worked and we wanted a garage and drive for our two cars and Phil's motorbike. Also the cottage was fine for me on my own and when I had one or two people to stay for one or to nights but for Phil who is 6 foot and me it seemed a bit small to continue to live there permanently. Plus he is a radio ham and has lots of radios etc... There are lots of cottages in the area where we live and Shere where Holiday was partly filmed and a lovely village is not too far away and has a lovely tearoom!! I hope your sister finds somewhere soon and that you will share some photographs of the place she buys!!

Maura, I love looking at houses, cottages, etc.! I did see the movie, The Holiday and I want to live in that cottage!! I told my hubby that during the movie and he just rolled his eyes! I hope your sister gets more excited about looking for a new home and like you said you have enough enthusiasm for the two of you!!

Yes, the thrill of the hunt! We have been planted now for almost 5 years, and the itch to roam is recently getting stronger. I love that movie, and yes it's cottage is fabulous. Oh so cozy, and lots of land surrounding it. Yes, I would move to the U.K. in a flash, if at all possible. ;)
Enjoy your weekend Maura.

It is nice when one sister can be excited for the other one when she is not that into looking for a new home.

Lovely post and I enjoyed hearing about your sister. There is something so good about living in the country.

Have a great weekend.
Love ya,

Oh my! What a gorgeous home you found. Warm and inviting! I love it so much, I have to show my hubby!
I agree, moving is an adventure. I told my husband I'm a rolling stone. I never sit too long in one spot.

Hello Maura, yes I have seen that film and loved that cottage! I lived in a sharming old cottage just 50 mins train ride from London before we came here. You would love Somerset, we viewed endless pretty houses and cottages before choosing the one we have now. It needs a massive amount of work, if you are not too shockable take a lookat my latest photos! Lovely to read your Blog as ever. Kath x

Oh Maura, I love looking for houses too. The chance to look in the English countryside is a big dream. I have always thought of a little thatched roof cottage in Ireland too. I haven't seen this movie but now I must :)

Love it, oh my! Yes, I've always wanted to live in a little English town. I grew up loving the All Creatures Great & Small books, then when the PBS series came on and I could see the homes, hills, and villages I fell even more in love. I could easily live there...thanks so much for sharing your photos.
