Photographs And Memories

As most of you who follow my blog know ...this past Wednesday our old barn caught fire.
The fire department was able to stop the fire and it looked as though there was a good chance that we would be able to restore what was left.
I had big plans for this barn.

Unfortunately I am sad to report that
friday evening after we had just finished eating supper a neighbor came driving into our yard and when my husband went out to see what he wanted he saw that the old barn was TOTALLY engulfed in flames this time.

I called the fire department and again they were out to us in the country in record time. I am SO grateful for our volunteer fire department...the poor fellows had to leave their dinners and head out into 100 degree temperatures to help us out.

This time we were not so lucky. The barn is a total loss.
Another sad note is that the barn was insured up until the end of June...we changed insurance companies and because we have so many buildings we decided to not insure them all. Since we weren't using the barn and weren't ready to restore it we dropped the insurance on it.
Such is life...what's done is done and 'no use crying over spilt milk' as
my Nana used to say.

I will really miss seeing this old barn...it was my most favorite building on the farm. I was so looking forward to seeing it once we had taken all the old tin off the sides. It still had remnants of the red paint on the old weathered siding.

We've lost a little piece of history but at least we have our photographs and memories.

I am linking up with Mary from Little Red House for Mosaic Monday. I hope you will drop over to visit Mary and check out all the wonderful Mosaics...you'll meet some wonderful fellow bloggers!

I hope you have a wonderful day.

Maura

Oh, no! Was the second fire somehow a leftover result from the first? You must feel heartbroken...Yes, these things are life, but that doesn't make it much easier. My thoughts are with you.

I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your wonderful barn. How awful. Watching it must have been just heart wrenching. And to think you'd just stopped the insurance - that's just unbelievable.
I love the mosaic you started out with - the photos are beautiful.
Thank goodness no people or animals were hurt in the fire.
Take care,
-Staci

Maura, that is horrible, just horrible for that to happen to your barn again. Do you know what the cause of the fire was?

That is sad about your insurance too. I hope things turn around for you. I am glad that you have those lovely photos of the barn.

Nice mosaic this week. I love your little donkey Phoebe. She is too cute.

Have a good week.

That is so sad. Two fires? You must be devastated. I hope you will be able to rebuild at some point.

Like you said you have photographs and memories. By the way, I love that Jim Croce song.

Oh Maura, I'm so sorry to hear all this. You will, of course, get through this, but it has to be terribly hard right now.
Thinking of you....

Miss Maura,

Oh dear, we are so sad to hear that that wonderful barn is gone after surviving the first fire. Was it lightening?

Sometimes we have to make decisions (in this case the insurance)that we aren't sure is the right thing to do - but we do the best we can.

When we are sad we always say "let's go and hug some fur", that means we go and hug our puppy dogs. So, Miss Maura, go hug some fur".

Blessings & Hugs,
Prudence & Sissy
Mom too, of course

Aw, Maura I a so sorry that you lost your old barn. That is sad for sure. You will always remember what it looked like when you entered and the smell of the building and all the little details inside and out. Buildings are so precious when they hold memories. You have wonderful photos and thank God for that. I hope you build another one that looks just like it. Have a wonderful day, Hugs, Deb =^..^=x5

I'm so sorry about your barn.. What a shame.
At one point in our military career, we lost everything we owned in a fire so life does go on. I'm glad you have photos.
Happy Mosaic Monday
