Henry And The Memory Stones

When we moved to the farm
there were stepping stones leading to the
front door.

They were very uneven and even dangerous
to walk on so hubby planned to
take them out.

There was something very unique
about these 'stones'
which were actually pieces of
poured concrete.

Most of them were plain.
A few of them though
had names or hand
and footprints in them.

They were pieces of the
history of this sweet
little homestead.

Memory Stones.

We decided to keep them.
They sat in a pile under the trees
for a year.

This spring we planted our little
postage stamp lawn inside
the picket fence but before we did...
we set these in place.

We don't know who these people
were...but they left their
mark on this little
farm
and we will respect that.

They used to be gray concrete
but our rusty water has turned
them to this color.

I've gotten used to it.

Henry our little 'RESCUED' kitten
loves laying on these stones.
He and Chelsea like
to play chase
on them.

My blogging friend
Deb
from
was asking how our little
Henry was doing
so Deb...
these photo's are for you!

Henry 'hunting' for Chelsea.

Below Chelsea is in the distance
hunting for toads
or birds hiding under the lilac
bushes.

"I don't think she saw me!"

They play while Olly looks on.
He and his sister Lizzy are getting used to
Henry... they'll even sniff noses but
so far that's it.

I'm hoping one day they'll all
be good buddies.

Henry's sister Dora 'the explorer'
went to a wonderful home last month.
My hubby works with the fellow so
we get updates on how she's doing.
The word is..she's doing great!

I hope you enjoyed seeing the
memory stones
and Henry.

Have a wonderful day!

Maura :)

Oh, the pictures are so precious. Baby Henry is growing like a weed.

I love that you kept the stepping stones, and the rusty water showed its "artistic" talents. The color couldn't be more perfect.

Stepping stones/play stones....and someones family history - does it get any better than that?

I thought perhaps you stained the stepping stones to make them that color. I hope you have a water treatment system for drinking and doing laundry. Thank goodness my well water isn't that color.♥♫

I'm so glad you kept those sweet little imprinted "stones". Someday, you may get a knock on your door, and the children who grew up on that farm will be standing there saying, "I used to live here a long time ago."
Glad your little kitty is settling in. The other cats will get used to him in time.

Your yard and pets are so cute. I love the stepping stones and the color makes them look like taracotta. We have rusty water too. I'm in the process of making my own stepping stones. Cute photos. Kathi

I think it is wonderful that you kept the stones. Someday someone years from now may come back hoping they are there and you will happily suprise them.

Henry is too cute!

Neat post! I love the stepping stones! Maybe you could research courthouse records? Do you know who owned the farm before you? Oh, I love stuff like this :)
Henry is a love!! Pretty soon they will all be amigos!

How lovely, I am pleased you are keeping the stones. There is a section of path here, where the previous owner (who lived here 55 years) had marked his name and date in the concrete before it set.

What a lovely idea to keep the memory stones. They make a great "photo op" too - especially with Henry!

There's always something special when people leave a little history in their homestead, it begs you to respect it.
I'm so happy to hear you have kept the stepping stones, I can even imagine the work and fun that went into preserving those precious little handprints and handwritten names the day they were created.
The color is perfect !
Henry has grown, he has the markings of my old cat Sydney, and just as beautiful.
Such a sweet post Maura.

The kitty pictures really are precious! I am such a cat lover, and when I was young I used to sit with magazines and cut any and all pictures of cat out to save in an album. And I had quite an extensive "Library" of cat books. So these photos were a real treat for these cat-loving eyes. As for the stones, I love that you kept them. What a lovely thought, and I like that you called them "Memory stones". My grandmother's house had stones similar to that in the back yard, and although there were no foot prints or names on them, they seem to have remained a favorite memory of summer weeks spent at Grandma's in IL and all the fun we had there with cousins, making sure you stayed on the stones and didn't step into the grass, meaning that you were out of the game!! A lovely post, Maura.

Oh I am so glad that you are keeping the stones! How cool!!

Your pets are so adorable. Henry reminds me of Bob, a kitty my neighbor found almost dead in a ditch. We took him in until my sister was able to bring him home with her. I will send you a picture of him.

I am sure you enjoyed the weather today!! It has been a BEAUTIFUL day in Oz today! I had to do some shopping and my, was it a great morning to be out and about!

Oh my, those stepping stones touched me so. Aren't you glad you saved them? Many are part of someone's life and those moments live on in your garden.

Hi Maura
I am so glad you kept the memory stones, makes you wonder where these people are now. Are you able to trace any of the previous owners to match the names?
Love all your furbabies, wish I could have cats again but family allergies say no.
