Buzzzzzz

The corn crib

This morning when I walked over to the
old garage to feed Shep
I heard buzzing.

When I came out of the garage I looked up...
there were bee's everywhere!

Between the corn crib and the garage
the air was filled with bees.

They never bothered me so I headed back
to the house. Later this evening
my hubby came and got me and told me
to bring my camera.

This is what I saw!

I couldn't believe my hubby was standing so close...
and he was wanting me to come and
take a closer look!

The neat thing is...the bee's weren't the
lease bit worried about him.

I didn't care...I wasn't going any
closer.

Thank goodness for zoom lenses!!

If you look closely you can see how
the wood above the door is wet.
I think it's excess honey.

The double wall in the corn crib
is filled with the bee's honeycombs.

Last year hubby tore part of the wall
out and this is what we saw
The honeycombs were about 4 or 5 layers
deep in places and went way up into the wall.
Now they are even higher up and they've
moved over.

The bee's are very docile,
neither of us have been stung...
yet. Some friends think we should
get rid of them....we like them and  they're
great for pollinating our gardens and fruit trees so
they STAY.

Now if we could just
talk the bee's out of a quart or two
of honey ;)

Have a wonderful week!

Maura :)

Can't they be moved by a professional bee keeper to a better place on your property, where you are less likely to be stung. Like a hive? that way you could get to the honey. Honey bees are good creatures and I'm so glad you are not "getting rid" of them.

You must have a sweet place there indeed because there is a shortage of honey bees this year..you are blessed. I am allergic to bees but i still love them Very cool pictures. :D

You're so lucky to have the bees on your property. Perhaps it would be a good idea to move them to a hive, so that they don't get tired of the old place, or have it fall in on them and be forced to swarm elsewhere.

I don't mind some bees for pollination but I would have to get rid of them also. :)

Hi Miss Maura,

Gee, free room & board and they won't even give you a wee bit of honey? Naughty bees.

Oh lucky you! Right now I'm going through a must.have.bees phase, oh for a swarm to show up here! I'm with you...leave them just as they are. They are terrific for your gardens and fruit trees, and really, they are docile. Sounds like they're quite comfy with you and in their home!

Better Honey Bees than wasps.

Good for you. With all of the woes of honey bees these days it would be a shame to get rid of them....unless you have a beekeeper come and extract them to be relocated. They use a special vacuum and box that doesn't hurt the bees. Then you could have all the honey left behind!! But leaving them in place will assure that your plants are well pollinated. As long as they are not aggressive....I agree ..... let them stay!!

I am glad they are not bothering you. I have not hear much about the bees disapearing this year? they have a safe home with you!

You have it made. Now I agree with Garden of Daisies... have them looked at and moved by some pros to a better place on your farm. Will be so much easier to get honey too ;) I love our bees! -Tammy

Oh my - how wonderful that there is a bee hive on your property. And good for you for not wanting to be "rid" of them! They are struggling to survive and if it weren't for bees, we wouldn't have food.

Very cool!!

Lucky you. I wish I had a colony of bees like yours. They are neede for pollination. It's just too bag you can't have a wee bit of that honey too.

Wonderful that you have the bees. They are a plus on your litle farm. Is this a building that you use. Could you put some hives where you want them and could the bees just move on their own or do you have to have them moved.

A little bug spray will take care of that bee problem, lol. Richard

An up close and personal look at nature and its beauty.
As beautiful as they are, I'd bee (lol) a bit nervous about getting too close! :)
By the way,I still love those yellow flowers swaying in the breeze on your blog. Did you ever find out what page they were on on the glitter graphics?
Have a great week Maura!!

They are pretty gathered like that. But I would have to find a way to chase them off I think. Hopefully just discourage them without killing them?

please be careful! We were at a baby naming two weeks ago and my 2 yr old great nephew roused some bees in bushes.

They came rushing out, stung him twice, stung his Mom 5 times, stung his grandparents. Please be careful!

Most bees will be docile if they don't feel threatened but I do agree with some of the comments that a professional bee keeper should come in and move them to a safer place like a brand new hive.
I was working in a garden on the weekend on public property that was basically in a field. I must have disturbed tiny ground dwelling native bees by pulling weeds because the air was filled with them before I knew it.
They didn't bother me but just to be on the safe side I felt my work was done for the day.
Hope you'll let us know what you decide to do even if it is to let them be.

Oh. My. Goodness!!!! That would make one little Pooh bear extremely happy...hehehe! I agree with some of the other comments about having someone come out and move them. I'm for keeping the corn crib...you don't see too many of those and the bees can take up residence somewhere else!!!! LOL

I agree with Velma ... Pooh would love to come and visit .... it seems so would my bears too!
Take care around those bees.

Be careful around the bees! I read an article about a woman severely stung by hundreds of them when they were stirred up by the lawn mower. Your photos are very good!

Hello dear! Today it is very hot here in Italy .. For tomorrow, expect 40 ° C! help ....! I really like the bees and I think you could keep them with you, but maybe in a beehive so you would be quieter and then you get the honey. Who knows what good that will be! slurp: P A mega-kiss you and all your pets. Kiki ♥

I'd have a professional bee keeper remove those bees cause that corn crib would make an AWESOME play house or guest house! Go fer it this fall/winter!

They are protected here in Tn and if we call the state about "moving a bee problem", they come do it for free. Maybe it's the same in Kansas? So check it out!
Our neighbors just had this done.
I agree-have them moved and keep them! You are fortunate to have them :)
