This is my girl Hope.
The spunky girl who bucked me off
a couple of months ago.
I still have a lump on my butt!
Here she is looking pretty feisty
because her buddy Rosie
had been taken for a walk
and she was left behind.
She wasn't happy.
Here is Hope last week
after getting her teeth 'floated'.
The vet had to file some points off her teeth
and to do this she was given a little sedative.
You can see the wet spot in her mane
where she got her shot.
She was feeling no pain.
In fact the vet said she wasn't
feeling much of anything!
Horses lock all their knees so they
can sleep while standing up.
Hope wasn't locking her right knee
so she was a little wobbly and
started weaving back and forth.
At one point I thought she was going
down...but she didn't
and gradually came out of it.
Look at that droopy sweet mouth.
It's a far cry from the tight lipped
mouth in the top photo.
I must say that seeing her like
this gave me a bit of satisfaction
and just for a fleeting moment
I felt like throwing a saddle on her.
I'm sure it would have been a
much quieter ride
than the day she bucked me off!
I wish I had remembered to bring
my camera out while the vet
was floating both horses teeth
but I was too busy watching
what he was doing.
It was about half an hour after the
vet finished floating the
girls teeth that they were
back feeding again.
Just like nothing had happened.
If you're wondering how the
vet 'floats' a horses teeth and why
they do it...here's a little
video on that subject.

Pretty girls you have there. I love how soft horses noses are and how they use their lips like fingers. I think they smell good too.

Poor Hope. Poor Maura's butt though. She has a cute head Maura with the cutest fuzzy ears! I some buckers and kickers today. That cold air, they just had to let it go!
Hi Maura: Poor Hope, but after watching that video I'm glad she had it done. Must hurt to bite down on something with those points..Happy Monday..Judy
What a lovely story about Hope and floating her teeth.
You have promted me to call the vet to check our horses teeth. must admit, we get a little lazy with it.

Hi Miss Maura,
Precious "babies".
Hugs,
Prudence ♥
Lovely photos of Hope, she is just beautiful. I never had my horses sedated for their dentistry, they were always Ok, although their eyes would roll at the rasping sound!
Awww,,Maura-She is gorgeous...just gorgeous. I had a beautiful quarter horse, Ginger, that I rode like the wind when I was a teenager. I adored her. I don't remember that she ever had her teeth floated-although that might have happened. She's a beauty...but sorry she threw you! xo Diana
Talk about learning something new! I had no idea about this procedure and enjoyed reading what you wrote and seeing the short video.
Your Hope is a real beauty, love the profile in the first photo.
Hopefully she won't throw you off again, that's not very ladylike.

Becky just floated Pete's teeth....we thing for the first time ever. Apparently none of his previous owners felt the need. His hooks were almost 2 inches long. OUCH!!! Hope is lovely....tell her "no more bucking!" I cannot seem to break Moonbeam of it. He tries every chance he gets and I am getting tired of it...I have to say!
Have a great day,
Bev
Beautiful horses. Can you get dental insurance for them?
it is always the hardest thing for me to watch! ugh! :)
i stumbled upon your beautiful blog this morning, home sick from work, and homesick for a home yet to be created. you inspire me! thank you for the beautiful images and the music is really soothing.
Really makes me miss having them around!! We had them when I was a kid. I miss the way they smell and being nuzzled by them! Love your pictures, Hope is just beautiful!
What a pretty horse Hope is. I had never heard of floating teeth. Thanks for the video. I learned something new today.
Hi Maura,
I didn't have any idea about floating a horse's teeth either!
She sure is a sweetie, though. Why did she throw you? Did you pinch her? ;)
what a beautiful animal and sweet expression...i would love to give her and you a big giant hug.
Just the other day I was wondering how you were getting on with your horse. So glad you posted more about her. Hang on tighter next time : )
well, having married a cowboy, and owning 4 horses, I know all about "floatiing teeth".
I have yet to be bucked off...and actually am very frightened of the whole thing.
I told hubby, The day I get bucked off, if I really hurt myself, that will be the end of my riding.
at 60...I worry about that kind of stuff.
Our horses are still yet rather "green"
I took 2 years of riding lessons, but still, am a little apprehensive.
Horses can be so fun..........and yet???????
I'm so sorry she bucked you, but they're beautiful horses! =) I hope she's better, now! =0
The things I learn, Maura, popping by your blog!
