The Colors Of Spring

Color...this is definitely a spring full
of color for us here on the farm.

This time last year
THIS
is what our fenced in
area close to the house looked like...

....it was brown dirt and sand.

On March the 24th THIS year
I mowed the lawn for the first time this year
and most of the plants I had put in the garden
last year were up.

The daffodils were blooming.

It was the beginning of color here on the farm.

 This is my favorite Hosta...
it's name is Marmalade.
:)
It's a perfect name don't you think?

Right now the Columbine are the stars
of the garden.

I love their soft pinks and yellows.

I'd like to plant more of these if I can find them.

The 'Fairy House' yard needs a bit of work.

The rhododendron I planted last fall
is starting to bloom.

I just hope all these plants still look good
when the hot summer sun is here
as one of the trees that gave
a lot of these plants
the shade
they needed has
all but died.

Many of them will have to be moved
if the sun becomes too much for them
but time will tell.

This is another Hosta I really like.
I thought the heat and drought
last summer had killed it
and a few of the others
including 'Marmalade'
but they shocked me by
coming back.

:)

This poor weather vane
has moved 3 times
with us and has been knocked over
and blown over
and been beaten with hail.

This summer it will again be covered
with Red Trumpet Vine
that has been here for many years.

Yes it's definitely
a colorful spring on the farm
and summer will
have a hard act to follow.

I hope you are enjoying a colorful
spring where ever you are.

Dear Maura,
What a lovely delightful spring blog. Your garden looks so so different and pretty now.
I am not familiar with the names of some flowers..but the ones that you have are so colourful .
Spring is here. Some of my flowers have sprung out and my roses have started to bloom.
We have the same here.. when the heat comes the poor flowers suffer.
lovely post.. I like the photo of you and your 3 children.
happy thursday val

Good morning Maura ~ Everything looks beautiful there at Lilac Lane Cottage. I would love to be able to grow columbines, but alas. It is always amazing what time can do for our gardens.

Enjoy all that beauty that is surrounding you.

It's so nice to get a look at spring colors...thank you for sharing them! We're still waiting for our bit of color...but then we had a few flakes of snow yesterday. I love the vintage tub with the chickens...terrific inspiration for a spot near our coop!

Isn't it wonderful when all your hard work starts to pay off. What I amazed by is the lack of weeds! Seems all my beds have them, I think our bird haven of a yard brings them with them.

Your yard looks beautiful. I love hostas too. They come back every year no matter what. My favorite is called "sum & substance".

Love the yard and the fairy tree. Do not worry about getting more columbine it will spread if you let the seeds alone. Have a fun time watching your garden develop. Hugs Mary

Hi Maura! I found your blog on Pinterest (and actually repinned it so that it was properly attributed to your blog) :) I can't tell you how inspiring your blog is!! I'm so excited! I recently moved back into my childhood home - an old ranch house in the country. After being dormant for the past 30 years, my husband and I are just now starting to breath life back into the farm. Your blog is such an inspiration. I forced my husband to read your posts as I kept saying "see see see - that's what I want!" Which state is your farm located?

Wow this is amazing. You and I have the same garden style. Impressive changes have taken place in a year for you. I really love your chicken statues in the washtub and fairy garden. I made a fairy garden in a wheelbarrow this spring..so much fun to have a miniature garden.

I bet it is fun for you to see Your Garden Grow.
Love the "fairy area".....that would be totally a fun thing to do (my grandkids would love that)

I have always loved Columbines....my Great grandmother had a whole area full of them. I want to try and grow some myself once we get our "yard area" developed. (If I should Live long enough...tee,hee)

Your garden is looking very lovely! I especially love the columbine. I had bunches of those growing in the garden at my first house. I really need to put in larger flower beds here, as I am missing a lot of my favorites.

We have two of those eagle weathervanes -- and one got pretty beat up in a storm as well. I just love them, though.

Your columbine are gorgeous -- you should collect the seeds after they are done and plant them in the fall.

Beautiful photos -- I really love what you've done with your yard.
