One of the pleasures of living in the
country is that you can just walk
out to the dirt road in
front and pick a bouquet
of
wild sunflowers.
The other day I had
some apples to use up
so I decided to make one of my favorite
fall desserts...
Apple Crisp.
However...
in my mind if you have
Apple Crisp
you simply MUST
have ice cream.
I didn't have any.
So...once I had my Apple Crisp in the oven
I pulled out my trusty
Donvier ice cream
maker and made some
simple
Vanilla Ice Cream.
Do you have one?
I tell you...this is just
the easiest way to make
delicious home made
ice cream!
You just measure your ingredients...
heavy cream, milk, sugar, farm fresh eggs,
and vanilla
mix them a bit and pour them into
the cold container.
Let it sit for about 2-3 minutes...
give the handle a few turns...
and then get yourself a
magazine.
Continue to turn the handle
every few minutes for about
half an hour.
Easy Peasy.
No salt.
No mess.
Once the ice cream was done
and while the Apple Crisp
cooled a bit
I headed out to pick
a few wild flowers.
Simple Pleasures.
This Friday is the first day of
Fall.
ENJOY!
Maura :)

All looks wonderful. I have never made my own icecream. I love apple crumbly or crisp and you call it I think they are one of the same thing just we call it a different name. Wonderful photos , Have a great day !
Yes indeed! What can be prettier than beautiful sunflowers in a white enamel pitcher. And what better way to welcome fall than with freshly baked apple crisp and homemade ice cream!
Hugs,
Susan and Bentley
This looks lovely...make your own ice cream, bake a tart and walk outside to pick as many sunflowers as you wish...!
Very nice, sounds like a great treat:@)
This looks fantastic. I have one of those little ice cream makers, I'm not sure if it's the same kind though. I need to get it out and give it a crank for some homemade deliciousness.
Your sunflowers are wonderful and the apple crisp looks so yummy and seems so fallish.
Have a wonderful week ~ FlowerLady
Looks yummy! And yay for Fall :) We are finally getting cooler weather! I hope you are too, Maura! What a summer it was for us..

Oh my gosh does that all look wonderful!!
Yum! Glad to hear things are cooling down there.
Mmmm. Our neighbor brought over some apples from his tree; I will have to make some apple crisp tonight!
Girl, I'm headed over right now. 8-) I love apple crisp-you've inspired me but I need to find with an oatmeal topping without flour. We have an ice cream maker but I haven't used it yet-so I may just make some for tomorrow nights dessert with friends. My girls make it too but it turns out a bit soft.
Hugs today. Noreen
Your pictures are beautiful!
Your life seems so rich and full.
Apple Crisp is my fall dessert and everybody looks forward to it after we go pick a basket full of apples from our local orchard. Yes, Simple Pleasures!
Apple crisp is one of my favorite desserts too! Because I don't have to make crust! :-) I love all the wild sunflowers that are still blooming profusely.
Oh what a lovely fall day - even though fall isn't quite here yet. Lovely pictures.

Maura,
There's nothing better than homemade vanilla icecream. Yum!! I can hardly belive it's already fall. Love the sunflowers.
Blessings,

Oh Maura, that looks so delicious. My husband is the ice-cream maker in our home. He made peach ice-cream last week that was amazing. Love the sunflowers almost as much as I love daisies. Your photos are lovely. How is Henry doing? Hope to see him again soon. I have three babies here that I am fostering for our shelter...10 days old and eyes just opening. You've just been through this so if you have any tips would love to hear them. hugs, Deb=^..^=x4
That made me very, very hungry Maura!

Love this post! Yummy photos. I have never seen this type of ice cream maker. I don't need it though. Your sunflowers are so cheery.
Oh Maura, the apple crisp a la mode looks amazing. I've not seen an ice cream maker like this before. There's nothing better than homemade ice cream...unless it setting atop warm homemade apple crisp.
Your flower arrangement is very pretty.
Oh, how yummy!!! I might have to stop by and have a snack with you!! Happy Autumn.
This is the best news. I have been thinking about purchasing an ice cream maker all summer long! My parents used to make homemade ice cream each time we and the grandchildren came home and it was such a warm family moment together. Now to find this brand and purchase one for my grandchildren.
The apple crisp looks yummy too. Do you share recipes?
oh man. everything about this post is autumn country love. i can taste the apple crisp and ice cream now. that's a good breakfast right?
