I thought I would re-post
this piece from June about our little
yellow cottage since some of
my newer followers may have missed it.
We haven't really
made any changes other than
putting two coats of the final color on top
of 2 (and in some places 3) coats
of primer. Blue is a hard color
to cover!
We still haven't made the shutters
but we're still looking at lots of designs.
I'm heading to
Missouri on Saturday to see a cabinet
my sister-in law saw on Craigslist.
We will be spending the night and
while we're there we will be
on the hunt for treasures!
I'm not looking for anything in particular
but you can bet we'll have fun
hunting ;)
I'll be taking my camera
so you know what that means....
yep lots of pictures.
Here's the post from June.
~~~~~~~
I couldn't wait any longer...
I had to share with you our newly painted
little farm cottage.
We're not done painting yet so there's
only a few pictures.
Below...is the 'before'.
Above is the 'after'
of the front.
I actually didn't mind the blue
but it needed a paint job badly
and after asking your opinion
and showing you a few samples
of my favorite colors...
I chose the one
most of you liked.
I think we made the right choice.
Here is how the back looked before.
(see that sidewalk coming towards you to the left? It used to
lead to the summer kitchen/wash house which sat
right there. It was gone when we moved in but the
foundation was still there and we dug it up.)
The 'After'.
Well it's not done yet and this is only
the primer but it's close to the finish
coat.
We still have to cut the tops off the posts
and stain the fence and back porch.
The front porch 'Before'
The front porch 'After'.
We're thinking of making some
shutters and painting them
a dark green or black.
What do you think?
More pictures to come soon.
I vote for black shutters...black is the best accent color there id! I LOVE this color..how fresh it is just like a little ray of sunshine. Love grows best in little cottages I think. This is just what I would like to downsize to! :D
It looks wonderful!
I love the yellow-
what a welcoming haven you are creating.
Enjoyed visiting,
May I be the first to say "Magnificent". I can't think of a better colour for that enchanting home. Enjoy! Hugs, Deb=^..^=x4
Hi Maura - that porch swing looks like it has been in place forever. The multi-pane door looks so good. What a welcoming entry. Great changes.
Wow! Oh make that a double Wow! Beautiful, Maura. It looks wonderful, the yellow makes such a difference, it's so fresh and new looking. My first thought on the shutters was black. Then looking closer at the photos I thought maybe a color to match the shingles? Just a thought. I'm sure whatever you choose will look great!
Hi Maura, the house looks amazing! I know you must be very proud!
I thinks black shutters would look great with the house color.
hugs,
Regina
Maura it looks fantastic! So much lighter and brighter and I think cozier too. All the plants and flowers will really pop against this paler color. Shutters would look fabulous... or perhaps window boxes? And I'd vote for black :)
It looks fabulous Maura. The yellow just brightens everything up. Great choice and a lot of work I'm sure!
I love the yellow! So cheerful. Just like my husband's parents house. Enjoy your new look.
How absolutely beautiful! I have always "visited" your place whenever I need a pick-me-up and need to see something pretty. Just when I thought it couldn't possibly get any better, you show us this. Wonderful job!
Aww, I love the yellow, it's such a soft buttercup yellow, and the perfect choice for your cottage.
I love green shutters especially the mossy green.
It all looks so pretty, you've done a wonderful job !
Oh, Maura, it looks so good! I love the yellow and I think black shutters would look great with the white trim. The porch swing and the new door add great welcoming appeal. Yea for you!
come home:) Thanks for sharing!
Oh, Maura! Just beautiful! It looks so happy with it's cheerful new color. Like putting on a new dress that was custom made for you :)
I bet you keep going outside and standing there just to gaze at the home, don't you?!
Have a great weekend, friend!
The yellow is so sunshiney and happy..you've done a great job on the house. I think black would look good for the shutters too.
Maura, I am completely smitten with the yellow! It is looking fabulous! Know what? A portion of our farmhouse (summer kitchen also?) was cut off the back years before we moved in and transformed into a (wait for it...)...
Chicken Coop! Sheesh. Anyway, guess that was a common thing to do back then. Keep us posted on the progress. I just love it!! -Tammy
Hello Maura, I am new follower to your blog. First of all I wanted to say how I loved the Miss Potter music, I LOVE that film!! Secondly, I just love the colour you have painted your beautiful home in. We also have a weatherboard cottage, it is painted Manilla which is a creamy yellow heritage colour and we have painted the windows and trims olive green. Love your blog!!! Warm regards, Ann ~ Australia.
You made the perfect change. Absolutely right!
Nice, lighter, pal, just PERFECT.
Be helthy and happy at you "new home"
What a difference paint color makes.
Hi Maura,
Oh, the cottage looks beautiful. Happy Weekend, my friend.
Hi Maura!
I love the yellow paint. It's bright and cheerful. Shutters will be a nice finishing touch.
It looks fabulous Maura-good choice ! xx
Thanks everyone! Yes...for those of you who asked it...I do go stand outside and admire our 'new' house LOL! The difference is amazing. I do feel we need some contrast though and hubby likes the idea of shutters too so thanks for your suggestions. I'm sure that will be a winter project as it's already in the 90's! For now I'll just sit back and smile and dream of shutters and window boxes filled with flowers ;)
Hi Maura, I adore your cute yellow cottage!!It has so much charm.I love the color.It's just a place you want to be.
Kathy
Awww the color looks great!! Someday I hope to have a cute old house like yours!
Your cottage looks absolutely fantastic!! What a difference.
Shutters would add a nice contrast, for sure. Either color would work. You'll know when the time comes.
Have a lovely weekend.
Beautiful! I really love the yellow!!
Maura, your home appears so bright and cheery. I love the new color, it feels very welcoming. BTW, Very nice paint job, I look forward to future photos. Blessings from Maine, Julie.
It just says FRESH! And it also has YOU written all over it! Lovely as always.
Wow, what a difference the color made!! Love the new yellow, it is so light and really brightens the whole house! Definitely black shutters if you opt for that! Congratulations with the "new" house!!
Yellow is so welcoming. Good choice of color.
Your cottage is gorgeous, Maura. I love the yellow - it really suits! I like the idea of painting the shutters - there's a very dark green that is nearly black and I think it would be perfect.
Love it. It really sets it off. Peaceful and lovely both.
Cher
Hi Maura
I'm glad you did like the blue from before because I think I like it better. The yellow is nice too and it comes down to having a change sometimes. We painted the inside of your home a butter yellow a couple of years ago and it really brightens the place up. The outside is a deeper shade of yellow to match the bricks.
The change from blue to yellow is refreshing; we did the same a couple of years ago with the yellow matching some of the bricks.
So sweet Maura!
I love the colour..so cheery and bright!
It looks so homey and warm..you've dsone a fabulous job..you both must be so happy with it!!
Just gorgeous!!
Deborah xoxo
The yellow house looks very smiling and welcoming. And so pretty with the white trim. A great choice.
Simply Lovely!!! Yellow is one of my favorite colors! A sweet little place and a sweet little blog!
Hi Maura,
I haven't visited in ages!
Your little cottage was sweet before, but I must say that it looks terrific now! Shutters would be super cute!
How absolutely more cute the house is now that it is yellow. Is the picket fence going to be white, that will up the cute factor..Karencg
I say fabulous Maura! You really picked the perfect color and your porch looks just picture perfect!
Kudos to you!
Cindy
I LOVE it!! And the story of the kittens is just too precious. Maybe you could put a trap out and catch mom and get her spayed so she doesn't keep having more kittens. So glad these two beauties have found homes.
I love yellow - your cottage is so beautiful and charming!
Leaving in a yellow house myself with dark green shutters, I have to say I love your new paint job. If you are looking for a great dark green try Benjamin Moore Essex Green. It's quite dark. Looks great!!
maura! it looks sosososososo sweet. the perfect cottage! yay! i love it! my husband and i made shutters once... we cut little moons in them... that would look so sweet on your cottage! and those kittens... my heart melts! : )
Maura- I couldn't agree more, I think the yellow is "perfect" for your cottage. It is so happy and like a ray of sunshine! I love it!!
joan
I think black shutters would look just lovely! Your home is so cute!
I love the yellow. I read an article about house paint and it said that houses sell better when painted yellow. That must mean that people like the color, but don't ever choose the color themselves. I'm hoping to paint our house yellow some day. Yellow goes so well with green and blue.
Very cheery Maura! I love it!
Hugs,
Cathie
absolutely beautiful....and your blog is beautiful also...new follower......would love for you stop by and follow...I'm new http://terrisavonspecials.blogspot.com/
What a wonderful change you've created in your home. It is looking lovely.
Teresa
I think it looks beautiful and I know you are happy with it. I noticed that's asbestos siding, correct? That stuff lasts forever, that's a good thing. It all looks very peaceful and welcoming.
