Barn Home
"Were you born in a barn?!"
How many of us have had
that said to us before?
My Grandpa used to say that to me
every time he was around when
I forgot to shut the back door.
I hated those words!
There was
NO WAY
I was
BORN IN A BARN!
Now that I'm all grown up
I think I would rather like
being born in a barn...
a converted barn that is.

Imagine the possibilities.
Imagine the beams.
Imagine the feeling of
permanence.
It doesn't matter if you like
soaring ceilings with
massive beam
and tall
windows that
let in lots of light or....
Heath Farm
Heath Farm
low slung ceilings
with low beams and smaller
windows
that give that cozy feel.

You can have your choice
or even
enjoy both under one roof!

For those of you who can answer
"YES!"
to that old question
I say...
LUCKY YOU!!
Would you like to be born in a barn?
Maura :)

Boy, they sure don't make barns like they used too, do they? :-)
Hi Maura! I know I wasn't born in barn, but I sure have spent a lot of time in them over the years!! I do so wish I had one of those old beautiful barns of my own, such character and beauty....you bet I'm a barn lover!!~devon
Those barn homes look luxurious. I would LOVE to live in one. The exposed beams are beautiful to me. Have a wonderful day.

Hi Maura, there are a huge number of converted barns and chapels here in England, but the huge proportions have never appealed to me. Of all your photos, I likes the low ceilinged rooms best. Now, I could live in your cottage, no problem at all :-D
It amkes beautiful houses!love the 6th best, lot of space!
I certainly would! I watched a barn reno years and years ago on this old house and loved it. Ever since, I've always thought how cool that would be. Love the photos!

Yup ! my mum said it to us and I say it to our kids or who ever fits the the saying lol. Wonderful photos. I love barns of all kinds. Have a great day
Oh dear....the Heath Farm is so lovely it makes my heart ache.
For me? I would dearly love a wee storybook cottage........
Thanks for sharing!
No, but I'd like to live in one. Actually, the only reason our red farmhouse is a farmhouse and not a barnhouse is because we couldn't get a mortgage on a barnhouse. Crazy! I don't know what's wrong with people. Why wouldn't you want to live in something as lovely as those pics? I especially like the one with the curtains to draw closed near the bed. Looks like a one room barn to me. That's what my husband and I dream of retiring to.
Wasn't born in one but spent the better part of my youth inside one, and helped my uncle convert one into his home.
I always loved the atmosphere inside his home, beams, brass hunting horns, old farmhouse windows, it gave the feeling of being on holiday everyday.
Such wonderful examples you have shared, I would gladly live in either of them :)
Are you making progress with the painting ?
~Jo
Fabulous ! I would love to live in one of those-any one would do me !
All beautiful pics Maura. I would love to have an old barn on our place, they have so much character.
We sure did hear that! And to be truthful, I'm sure my kids have, too! Isn't it amazing how imagination can change our perception of buildings? These would be wonderful to be born in - or live in. I like the high ceilings and open spaces and totally love the surroundings. Thanks for finding and sharing these with me - always a pleasure spending time with you! Much love...Scufty
I SO want to live in a barn! I don't care if I was born in one, but I sure would like to end up in one.
Brenda
wow, I would love to live in one of those barns. They are all beautiful.

If the barn I was born in looks like those, then it's a resounding YES!!! How beautiful. I've always wanted to live in a house with a story behind it.
If I had a penny for every time my mother asked me if I was born in a barn, I could buy one of these beauties ;-)
LOL! I had a friend who lived in a barn loft apartment. It was wonderful to sit up there, all beams and rough wood. Loved it. Great post!
Pat
Isn't it funny?...what we remember from childhood? I'd love to live in a barn that looks like one of these!
WOW! I'm not sure which one I like the best! Truly beautiful! Being born in a barn wouldn't be so bad if it was one like these :)
~Chris
I'd love to live in a home like those. Wouldn't it be nice ...
Every one of these is just gorgeous! And I was just about raised in a barn, we had a big red one and I about lived in it everyday! :D
I could live in one of those!! Great post ans pictures!
These houses are extraordinary.
Thanks.
Angela
Oooh Maura, great post with such gorgeous pics! Loved seeing them all!
Some really georgous pictures you have there. I just love to see people fix up places and live in them no matter what they are. It decreases our dependence on the expensive developers that dont build homes correctly.
YES! I would love to live in a converted barn, not as new as some as those you've pictured, although they are all lovely. I like the creaky old wood floors,(clean of straw and hay,of course..with a nice new coat of stain) I love heavy, hand hewn beams (imagine tying a rope and board swing one of them!), sliding barn doors, and lofts! How awesome it would be to live in a barn!
(sigh)....just beautiful!
