Tip Toe Through The Tulips




Well maybe not 'tip toe' through
them 
but we can at least
enjoy them 
;)


Thursday was our big grocery day
and I couldn't resist bringing
 home a pretty bouquet
of lovely spring tulips.


I was able to choose from pink tulips
and red and yellow and mauve etc
but these ones caught my eye.


I would LOVE to plant some
tulips here on the farm
but I'm afraid we have way
too many squirrels 
running around
and they
LOVE 
tulip bulbs.

So this past fall I planted daffodils instead.



Hopefully they will start to show
signs of life soon.

Until then...
I may just have to treat myself
again ;)


Poor hubby's back went out last
Tuesday and he has been up and down
since then.

I'm sure we'll be making a trip into 
the city to see his doctor tomorrow
but he says he's going to work tonight.

We'll see what happens when he get's up.


His big brother came over today  
and used the tractor to continue
cleaning out our hedgerow. 
I'm sure it's been many MANY
years since anyone has been able
to walk under those trees!

Mostly he is just cutting off dead limbs
and taking down dead trees that were 
burned when the barn caught fire. 

We had hoped that some of them would
recover and they did...at least partially. 
It's always sad when you have to take
a tree down but sometimes you
have no choice. 

Anyway...it's been a good weekend
and a sunny one.
I hope yours has been a good one too.

    Hi Maura: Pretty, pretty tulips. I know I stated patience but I've almost got my dining room slicked up and think I will have to break down and buy some too..Hope Hubby is feeling better. Judy

    They are beautiful and so much promising spring. I watch their leaves in the garden grow longer and longer and am so longing to have their splash of colour added to the browniness :-)

    Your pictures are just lovely! That was a nice way to start my morning!
    Yes, it is sad to take down a tree, we had to have the oak in from of the house removed, did not realize just how bad it was, the men said that if we had strong wonds, we could have had a tree inside the house! A couple of weeks later we had a storm with high winds, so we were lucky! But it is sad, I miss that shade of that oak tree. Have a super Monday!!

    Maura~ Those tulips are beautiful. I may have to pick up some for myself this week. I am so anxious for Spring now.

    I hope your hubby's back is better soon. That is just miserable when you can't do anything you want to do.

    It will be nice when all the clearing is done on your place but it IS sad to see trees coming down. xo Diana

    I bought myself to big bunches of red tulips on Saturday and they brightened the weekend. I can't wait until they're blooming in the flower beds.

    So much work on the farm. I would think the dogs would keep the squirrels at bay, but daffodils are my favorite. Hope yours have many blooms.

    Maura, I can't wait to read all your blog and all future posts!
    I think you are living my life?!
    I was attracted to your blog as we had a camper van called "Lila". Sadly we sold her when we bought our Narrowboat, Eliza which is now for sale so we can pursue our dream of buying a place where we can have a small animal sanctuary (small only for now!) and become self sufficient.
    The tulips are beautiful, they are not out here yet in oxfordshire, nor are the daffs, but I can't wait!

    My favourite flower! I've been catching up with life at Lilac Lane Cottage and was so delighted to meet your new horses! Here's to perhaps a more normal spring, this winter and last summer have not been 'normal' for many of us, has it?

    I can see I need to treat myself to some tulips. I love them, especially when they start popping up in the garden come May. It's my own little Tulip Festival then. I don't think it will rival the one in Ottawa, but it makes me smile!

    There's nothing like a fresh bunch of tulips but then any fresh flowers does it for me :D
    By the look of that sun your daffodils will be showing their little faces soon.
    I hope your hubby is okay...if he's anything like mine he'll just struggle on. Men!

    Wow beautiful photos. I love tulips and I grow them in tubs but unless I net them they get dug up by the squirrels.

    Your tulips are lovely...We too have the squirrel problem. Our solution was to plant the bulbs(any) at their proper depth, cover with a very thin layer of dirt, then lay chicken wire over your lightly covered bulbs bulbs, finally completely cover your bulbs & wire with the reccomended amount of dirt. We saw squirrels literally trying to pull them through the wire, but the bulbs are just too fat & the wire requires the squirrels to dig between the mesh so to speak. (Ha!Ha! little thieves...LOL).

    Pretty tulips!! Good for you for splurging. I see so many ladies buying little bouquets 'just because' and I think I will too the next time I go shopping!

    The tulips are gorgeous. Such a happy flower. (well, actually all flowers seem to be "happy flowers') At least they sure make me happy.
    I hope to someday plant bulbs around our property too once we get the "landscaping plan" in effect. But, living in the country, as you said, I wonder if the wild life will leave them alone.
    You certainly wouldn't find any today as it has been blizzarding all day and we now have a good 8 or more inches out there.
