Our Little Yellow Cottage

I thought I would re-post
this piece from June about our little
yellow cottage since some of
my newer followers may have missed it.
 We haven't really
made any changes other than
putting two coats of the final color on top
of 2 (and in some places 3) coats
of primer. Blue is a hard color
to cover!

We still haven't made the shutters
but we're still looking at lots of designs.

 I'm heading to
Missouri on Saturday to see a cabinet
my sister-in law saw on Craigslist.
We will be spending the night and
while we're there we will be
on the hunt for treasures!
I'm not looking for anything in particular
but you can bet we'll have fun
hunting ;)

I'll be taking my camera
so you know what that means....
yep lots of pictures.

Here's the post from June.

~~~~~~~
I couldn't wait any longer...
I had to share with you our newly painted
little farm cottage.
We're not done painting yet so there's
only a few pictures.
Below...is the 'before'.
Above is the 'after'
of the front.
I actually didn't mind the blue
but it needed a paint job badly
and after asking your opinion
and showing you a few samples
of my favorite colors...
I chose the one
most of you liked.
I think we made the right choice.
Here is how the back looked before.
(see that sidewalk coming towards you to the left? It used to
lead to the summer kitchen/wash house which sat
right there. It was gone when we moved in but the
foundation was still there and we dug it up.)
The 'After'.
Well it's not done yet and this is only
the primer but it's close to the finish
coat.
We still have to cut the tops off the posts
and stain the fence and back porch.
The front porch 'Before'
The front porch 'After'.
We're thinking of making some
shutters and painting them
a dark green or black.
What do you think?
More pictures to come soon.
  5. Wow! Oh make that a double Wow! Beautiful, Maura. It looks wonderful, the yellow makes such a difference, it's so fresh and new looking. My first thought on the shutters was black. Then looking closer at the photos I thought maybe a color to match the shingles? Just a thought. I'm sure whatever you choose will look great!
  7. Maura it looks fantastic! So much lighter and brighter and I think cozier too. All the plants and flowers will really pop against this paler color. Shutters would look fabulous... or perhaps window boxes? And I'd vote for black :)
  17. Maura, I am completely smitten with the yellow! It is looking fabulous! Know what? A portion of our farmhouse (summer kitchen also?) was cut off the back years before we moved in and transformed into a (wait for it...)...
    Chicken Coop! Sheesh. Anyway, guess that was a common thing to do back then. Keep us posted on the progress. I just love it!! -Tammy
Secondly, I just love the colour you have painted your beautiful home in. We also have a weatherboard cottage, it is painted Manilla which is a creamy yellow heritage colour and we have painted the windows and trims olive green. Love your blog!!!   28. Thanks everyone! Yes...for those of you who asked it...I do go stand outside and admire our 'new' house LOL! The difference is amazing. I do feel we need some contrast though and hubby likes the idea of shutters too so thanks for your suggestions. I'm sure that will be a winter project as it's already in the 90's! For now I'll just sit back and smile and dream of shutters and window boxes filled with flowers ;)
  37. Your cottage is gorgeous, Maura. I love the yellow - it really suits! I like the idea of painting the shutters - there's a very dark green that is nearly black and I think it would be perfect.
  39. Hi Maura
    I'm glad you did like the blue from before because I think I like it better. The yellow is nice too and it comes down to having a change sometimes. We painted the inside of your home a butter yellow a couple of years ago and it really brightens the place up. The outside is a deeper shade of yellow to match the bricks.
    ReplyDelete
  40. The change from blue to yellow is refreshing; we did the same a couple of years ago with the yellow matching some of the bricks.
    It looks so homey and warm..you've dsone a fabulous job..you both must be so happy with it!!
  56. I love the yellow. I read an article about house paint and it said that houses sell better when painted yellow. That must mean that people like the color, but don't ever choose the color themselves. I'm hoping to paint our house yellow some day. Yellow goes so well with green and blue.
